Warning. Today’s post will be long. Please read it.
I’m 40 today, y’all!! You won’t hear me denying it or being cute about my age. I’m not going to say I’m 39. I’m not going to be ashamed. I am so lucky to be given the gift of another year and I want to celebrate that.
Did you know I’m a native Houstonian?
I wasn’t born in Houston, but I lived in Houston from the first week of my life on.
I learned to walk in Houston, I learned to talk and read in Houston. I learned to drive on the streets that are now under water. I fell in love for the first time in Houston, I graduated from high school in Houston, and I married the love of my life in Houston. I watched Matress Mack on TV and went to Astros games (I was in love with Craig Biggio) and yelled CLUTCH CITY!!! at Rockets games. I had a daddy in the oil and gas business and I grew up around oilmen. I shopped at the Galleria and ate at Ninfa’s on Navigation as much as I could. I went to the rodeo and two stepped with cute boys and drove around listening to Geto Boys and Robert Earl Keen.
And although I left the city for the last time in my mid-twenties, I am always a Houstonian at heart.
thank you to my dear friend, cathy z for creating this image for me
Right now heart is breaking for my friends in Houston and all over southeast Texas.
I can’t drive there and help extract people from homes, although I want to desperately. My friends got themselves out of flooded homes, and are now patrolling the streets in boats and trucks. One friend is even driving party buses around town. They are shuttling supplies to GRB and Ben Taub and all of the other hospitals. I can’t do any of that, and that makes me feel helpless… but here’s what I can do.
I can ask you to give.
I can beg you to give if you want me to. PLEASE give.
Every single dollar helps. This is going to take months and months and months to recover from.
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
So today…for my birthday, I want a present.
I’m not selling anything or handling any of the funds myself. I just want you to directly donate.
I want you to donate ANY amount in any way you choose to Houston, Beaumont, Nederland, Port Arthur, Port Aransas, Rockport, etc.
I know there are many places you can send your dollars. Here are some ideas.
I gave to JJ Watt’s fundraiser. I believe in JJ, his heart, and his intentions for the city. And I know every dollar will go back to rescuing and rebuilding my hometown. This is my number one recommendation.
Amazon Wish List for the neighborhood of our dear friends the Winegars…which was basically decimated.
Baby2Baby Texas Relief Amazon Wish List
Send Undies // via Brene Brown
Of course there are many many more avenues and options. Do your research and give where your heart leads and feels most comfortable.
Now. Let me sweeten the pot. I reached out to my friends far and wide and the response swept me off of my feet. I’ve been crying all day. The love and kindness in this world will never cease to amaze me.

My heart goes out to all of those affected by Hurricane Harvey. As I watch the news, I’m continuously impressed with their spirit and tenacity. I hope they know that the whole country is behind them and praying for them. I hope my donation to the Red Cross will be helpful, and, as a teacher, I’m also looking into how our school can adopt a school in Texas.
Erin says
There are several teachers who have set up google docs, pairing teachers in need with teachers who want to help. I’m signed up on a sped teacher list. Donors choose has also set up an account. You can donate directly on their site.
Denise Ward says
There is a FB page called Sun, Sand and Second Grade that shares how to adopt a Houston classroom. You might be able to find helpful suggestions there.
Carol says
I was one of the ones in the Spring area spared. All around me there are homes that have been destroyed. I am doing what I can here by bringing lunches to those cleaning up and on the weekend I will help clean up. To see whole neighborhoods gone is just so sad. There are no words. I am excited that I have seen all my crafty communities finding ways to help out. We will all get through this, there is a long road.
Ann Johnson says
Happy Birthday Stephanie. Thank you very much for providing the information for a donation. I honestly trust your opinion and made my donation. I pray for safety for everyone as they have to endure all of this. You are an amazing mother, wife and have such a caring heart. Thank you for your encouragement and love for all.
Lori says
I made my 5th donation today – I sent 8 pet beds and 5 blankets to the SPCA of Texas (1st donation to them was cat food, litter and towels) via Amazon (gotta love that Prime account!). Have also given to Chris Young’s (he’s a country music singer) fundraiser, the Supernatural (TV show) fundraiser and sent money to the Houston Food Bank. I wish I could do more!! My heart aches here in Cincinnati for everyone and hope that my small efforts help in somewhat.
(I’d be down for #2)
Happy Birthday!!!
Lori says
Help in some WAY, not what! 🙂
Kelly says
Happy birthday Stephanie! What a special way to celebrate 40 years!
I had not donated anything until tonight. I read CZ’s post and then yours. Your words resonated with me and I have donated to Samaritan’s Purse. I had wanted to donate but I was a bit confused about which organization to choose. I have heard some good things about many of them. So instead of taking forever to decide I just picked one and I did it.
I just can’t even fathom all of the stories and the devastation. My heart goes out to those in Houston and Texas. Many thought and prayers to all of you from Ohio.

First, Happy Birthday, Stephanie. What a wonderful way to celebrate, by giving to those who need it the most. My heart has been breaking for Houston and the affected Texas cities and towns. It is so humbling to realize this can happen anywhere to anyone. I have been touched by the unity and strength that Texas has displayed and by the army of volunteers who have jumped in and been heroes in every way. When I read your post I knew I would donate through the link you provided with JJ. What an inspiration he has been. The amounts donated by many may be small, but they add up significantly and prove that people still care. Houston, stay strong. Know that we are thinking of you and praying for you every single day.
Omayra Ortiz says
First, HAPPY BIRTHDAY and thank you for celebrating your life this way! I just donated through the Amazon Wish List (I like CZ Design gift, but happy to just contribute). My heart aches for your beloved city. I live in Florida (no stranger to hurricanes and its power). I have a dear friend that lives in Houston. She and her family are safe, thank God. Her in-laws were evacuated by boat and have received the help and support of MANY volunteers. You should be very proud of your city. Mother Nature is certainly unleashing the worst, but then we’ve seen the best of human nature. Be certain that we’ll continue to pray and help in any way we can. Stay safe, Houston! We got your back!
Debbie Greene says
I have been eating my feelings since this summer rated. I live in Fort Worth so we feel we are seeing cousins go through this. We have been following JJ ‘s efforts since the beginning since we are huge football fans. It’s Texas! We moved here 7 years ago and now are proud to call Texas home. The people are kind and have a No nonsense mentality. We plan on continuing our giving through many avenues as this will be a long term commitment to making Houston ( and surrounding areas) whole again. My birthday was the 28th so I like to think August girls are strong ones. Sorry for your heart ache but brighter days will appear. Your prize packages are icing on the giving cupcake. Thanks for doing this. Happy Birthday.
Leora Henkin says
Happy Birthday Stephanie! Thanks so much for opening your heart so that we can share ours with Houston! I have donated. Thanks to all for the prize donations as well. Good luck to all. If I’m lucky, I’d love # 10- the get to work book goodies.
With love, Leora
Gretchen says
Happy birthday, Stephanie! I’ve been hiding in the shadows a bit, dealing personally with Katrina PTSD and having severe problems watching any footage of storm damage. My soul will always be a little waterlogged, and I know that the healing takes time–even 12 years later. Houston is where we evacuated during Katrina, and I remember being welcomed with open arms. Giving today is the least I can do.
To your Houston friends, I have learned this and encourage you with this: This does not have to define you. You will find your strength and learn a new, deep understanding of what floats in life–love, hope, and the belief that people are good at their core. Love to you all!
Sandy Goldman says
Stephanie, happy birthday and thank you so much for providing these great sites to donate to. I am always leary about such a large chunk of my donation going for huge administrative fees. I felt comfortable donating with JJ. Just like with Hurricane Sandy in our area, it will take years and years to rebuild the damage, both physically and emotionally, back to the people of Houston. You are a good person.
Sarah PM says
Hi Stephanie! I live in The Woodlands, a community on the north side of the Greater Houston area. We were very luck and missed house flooding by 18 inches. After taking a day to decompress and put the house to rights (we had pulled everything off of the floor), my husband, 11 year old son and I spent yesterday helping a homeowner who wasn’t so lucky pull out carpet, floorboards, and drywall. I gave a gift to the United Way of Greater Houston. Their money will go to programs to support long term relief efforts., and this is going to be long term. Years. Most people didn’t have flood insurance (many were above the elevation where it was required). Thank you so much! Ps- I really dig the Ali Edwards year of digitals…
Brandy Jones says
Happy birthday! I’m only a few days behind you to the big 4-0 and share your sentiment, no need to pretend i’m younger… doesn’t hurt that no one believes my age anyway!
Thanks to you and everyone who participated. I’ve never been to any of the affected areas, but seeing it on the news hurts my heart and I made a donation b/c that’s what I’d want people to do if something like that happened where I live. Prayers to all affected.
Elana says
When it comes to catastrophes, I’ve always loved what Mr. Rogers had to say, “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” After all the recent events in our nation, this has helped restore my faith in humanity. I can’t even image how much people have lost in Houston and how their lives will be permanently scarred, but I would just encourage those affected to hang on to hope, which is never easy when you’re in the midst of tribulations. But hang on to hope that things will get better. Happy Birthday and thank you for showing that together, we can all make a difference.
Joyce DeLong says
Stephanie – thank you so much for the nudge & direction …. I supported the JJWatt fundraiser & shared on fb. Happy Birthday! (7 or 18 or 24 )
Jacquie Desilets says
After reading a little about JJ Watt, I too sent my donation to his fundraiser. What an inspiring individual! Please know that the spirit, strength and love of your fellow Americans has not gone unnoticed here in Canada.
Caroline Stroh says
My heart goes out to all those suffering the devastation in Texas and Louisiana. I’ve made a donation through the Amazon wish list.
Heather Hockman says
Happy Birthday! How wonderful that you’re embracing 40. I’m still denying 41. My sons and I just gave to the Houston Food Bank through a Crowdrise started by one of my favorite music artists (and his brother and friend). I grew up on the Panhandle of Florida and I know first hard the devastation of hurricanes. We are praying for you Texas! It has been so beautiful to finally see this country coming together. I know you will come out of this stronger than ever. Know that every corner of this country…and the world is thinking of you and praying for you. Keep fighting. <3
Pam Settlage says
What a lovely idea; thanks to all of you wonderful, creative people for sweetening the pot and encouraging us to help. My heart breaks for all the people in Texas whose lives have been upended. Last night, I saw a post from Brené Brown, who said one thing that shelter residents desperately need is…underwear! So I bought $80 of underwear thru Amazon, being directly shipped to Undies for Everyone in Houston. It’s stunning to think of the smallest details that we take for granted, and that all of these displaced people now have to worry about.
Here’s a link to Brené’s post: https://www.facebook.com/brenebrown/videos/1795556230459478/
Thanks to all of you who are helping, in whatever way. And Happy Birthday, Stephanie!
Luly Gonzalez says
Yay for August birthdays (mine is the 14th) but more importunately thank you for opening up your heart to those so desperately in need! I think we have only just begun to see the true damage that Harvey has brought to the region… I made a donation to JJ Watts since I know the overhead costs of some organizations doesn’t’ allow for the full impact. Thank you again (and I’d be up for CZ or KP goodies)
Jo says
A very Happy birthday. As a UK citizen I have watched the Texas floods from afar however as a resident of the county of Somerset we too have suffered severe flooding which left many our residents isolated from main towns for months during several winters. Families had to rely on boats to bring food to their villages and children had to go via boat to get the buses to school. In many areas the clean ups are still going on 2 years later and families are still recovering. This mat be on a smaller scale however the understanding of how your state is affected is very strong.
I made a donation of items for children through the Baby2Baby Amazon list as I thought it was important as a nurse to ensure children had access to healthcare products as simple as toothbrushes to clean their teeth. I hope my small contribution with help them.
It would be lovely to win a prize however I am more than happy to have helped in a small way
Cindy Howard says
I, too, want to go to Texas and start pulling people and animals out. But they are saying that more volunteers will just get in the way. So I give where I can, where I feel it will do some good. To the people in Texas and Louisiana that have been affected, my heart goes out to you. It is easy for us to say you will get through this. I know you aren’t feeling that right now. But you will. I’ve been through personal tragedy before, and what got me through was trying to help the others that were going through the same thing. I see so many of you on the news doing that now. We are all so proud of you pulling together. May the water recede quickly and may you all find your new normals soon.
Big fan of Cathy Zielski, and she is the one that sent me to your blog.
Amber Dawson says
Happy birthday Stephanie! I wish we could be real life friends because you have an amazing heart! I have so much respect for you!
I donated to JJ Watt’s fund. I know 100% of his funds will go to help TX. I went to Texas A&M, and I understand the power of being an Aggie and temporary Texan. Texans go above and beyond to help each other, and I have so many friends in the state who need help, and who have already given their time and resources! Proud to know them.
(On the side note, Ali E, KP, or BOTM would be amazing should I be lucky enough to win.)
Bless you and God Bless Texas!
Tracy Riffle says
I’ve watched along with the rest of the country as conditions in Houston and surrounding areas went from bad to horrific. The devastation is so wide spread that it’s hard to comprehend. I wish I could hop on a plane and help with distribution of goods, clean up and rebuilding. For now, prayers and donations will continue. Just sent two orders of cleaning supplies to the neighborhood of your friends and diapers, etc to the diaper bank. My coworkers are collecting money to send to Red Cross. I am so so so very sorry to everyone!
Candy Clay says
I just donated to the Houston Food Bank because of the immediate need to feed the thousands of displaced people. As we go on about our lives and take the basics of food and shelter for granted we are quickly reminded how precious life is and how vulnerable we all are. Houston our hearts and thoughts and prayers go out to you.
Happy to donate and if I am lucky enough to win would love the prize from Cathy!
Julie Wilson says
Sending thoughts & prayers from Ontario Canada, we think of everyone in Texas daily. Just made a donation to the Red Cross.
Erin says
We live in N Houston, and it is so sad to see the devastation so widespread across SE Texas. The people of Houston and the surrounding communities are resilient, courageous, and generous. It is heartwarming to see neighbors helping neighbors. The outpouring of love from other cities and states is amazing. We filled 2 carts at Wal-Mart of bedding, pillows, and air mattresses for evacuees at the shelters. What generous donations to your birthday post! (11 or 18 are my favorites!) # hoUSton
Katie Chiet says
Happy birthday Stephanie! I live in south Florida and have been through many a hurricane and flood and still haven’t seen or experienced anything like what Harvey had done to Houston. I donated to 22qTexas. It’s a small non-profit that helps families like mine – families that have a child with a genetic disorder called 22q11.2 deletion syndrome. Kids with this syndrome have lots of medical needs and we have lots of families in the Houston/SE Texas area who have lost everything. These families have significant financial hardships already providing the therapy and medication and equipment their children require. I also donated to the Houston Diaper Bank because i have a friend with a 4 month old who is stuck in her apartment in Houston.
You sure know a lot of awesome people – I’d love the KP goodies, an Amy Tangerine quote, or the AE subscription! But even if i don’t win, i like knowing I’m helping others because i believe that if i were in need, someone would help me! Love is all around. ❤
Vanessa says
Happy birthday. What a wonderful way to celebrate and help. I think so many of us feel helpless watching all this heartache on tv and giving as a community helps us feel like we are doing something great together.
I donated to the JJ Watt campaign in hopes he’ll reach his 10 million goal!
Vanessa says
If I am lucky enough to win (3,10,11 because you inspire me to read more,12,13,17,18,25)
Linda Richardson says
First of all, Happy Birthday to you, I hope that despite the sadness you must be feeling for your friends, that you can make some happy memories.
I live in Scotland, in the United Kingdom and we are well used to rain. Sometimes a lot of rain, but thankfully no hurricanes.
My heart aches for all of those affected, I can only imagine how devastating it must be to lose your home and everything in it. However I am sure that with the wonderful community spirit that has been shown to those affected, by those affected, that you will help and support each other in the years ahead.
Having lost my son, who left behind a wonderful daughter and 3 amazing boys, I know how devastating losing someone you love can be. Things such as this bring home how precious, and vicarious, life is and in the days and months to come I wish you all the strength you need as you try to rebuild your lives.
I donated to JJ Watts fundraiser because rebuilding these homes and communities is so important and also because it was your preferred choice and, as a previous resident of Houston, you have an insight that I don’t.
If I was lucky enough to win a prize I would love Ali Edwards donation. I used to subscribe to her kits but after my son died I couldn’t afford to continue due to the funeral costs.
Jeanne Boardman says
I just gave to JJ Watts fund. I am a Wisconsin Badger fan and loved watching JJ play. My heart breaks for all those effected by this terrible storm. It’s unbelievable to see and hear of the devastation that is happening but I am so uplifted by the examples of people helping people. That is what makes this country wonderful. God Bless.
Lisa T says
Happy Birthday and thank you for compiling this list. I have been wondering where to donate and this allowed me to pick several things that I thought would help. Prizes are wonderful and I certainly don’t expect to win but no stamp sets or digital if I do. Again thanks for sharing your birthday to help those in true need.
Erin Mayrand says
Hi Stephanie! Happy 40th birthday… My 40th was a couple months ago. 🙂
I just donated to JJ and happened across your FB post moments later. It was meant to be. I’m so inspired by all the great people of the world coming together and helping those who are truly in need. I pray that we continue to show our love and support to all of those affected by the hurricane long after this initial outpouring.
Adrienne O'Neill says
Stephanie I am a long time fan of your scrapbooking from forever ago and enjoy your IG shenanigans, always reading your posts and watching your beautiful family in pictures (I promise in a non-stalker-ish way). First, happy birthday. Secondly, you absolutely moved me to tears. I just watched a human chain save an elderly man who’s vehicle was overcome by water. He would have lost his life. Your post polarized me to donate to the JJ Watt foundation which I would not have known about otherwise. Thank you for the idea. Thank you for organizing this collective approach. Thank you for even offering prizes – I would have donated just based on your impassioned words but who doesn’t love a good prize (Ali Edwards digital files for me – don’t even get me started about how I’m also a non-stalker of hers but had to cancel my subscription for a while due to the birth of three babies in my immediate family – hello instant grandma to both of my children’s new babies at the young age of 50 as well as first time biological aunt all at the same time )! I will likely cry some more but thank you from my very core for spurring me to act.
Maggie B says
Happy Birthday Stephanie! “Life begins at 40,” they say, so go ahead and own it! I did and never looked back. What a beautiful way to celebrate the next chapter of your life with gifts for those in need. That doesn’t surprise me; we Americans are wonderful and come together in times of desperation. Big hugs to you for thinking of your friends and our fellow Americans in TX.
I donated this morning to the American Red Cross (they were here to help us in NY during Super Storm Sandy in October 2012). Although my town wasn’t hit anywhere near as those I’m seeing in TX, I continue to cry with and pray for our brothers and sisters in TX and like you, I wish there was more I could do. It’s such a feeling of helplessness when you see so much devastation and there’s nothing you can do but donate and pray. I don’t have much in the way of money to give (I’m disabled and unable to work) but I’m great at praying tho so will continue to do so.
Thank you for doing such a selfless thing on your birthday….it’s definitely a birthday you will remember for the rest of your life. ~BIG HUGS~
#kindnessmatters
PS: I don’t use a planner so if I’m lucky enough to win, the planner goodies really aren’t for me so pass them along. <3
Janice Elyea-Wheeler says
The stories from Houston are heart-breaking. I can’t imagine what the people are going through. I donated thru the Amazon wish list (what a great idea to get items needed) and will be looking into some of the others as well. Wish I could do more.
What a wonderful thing you are doing. Happy 40th.
Mary Holshouser says
Happy Birthday. My birthday was Saturday, but I’m way
above your 40 mark. Just glad to be healthy and alive.
We were Winter Texans so I’ve driven through the
affected areas. It is so hard to get my mind around
the devastation. Just doesn’t seem possible.
I will donate to our local Red Cross, who will
funnel the money to Texas. the local TV
stations are holding telephone banks.
Thanks for the offer of gifts. I would be
thrilled to win anyone of them.
thrilled to receive any one of them.
Bonnie says
Texas, I’m so sorry that all these terrible things are happening. I refuse to say that it’s happening for a reason, or that it’s part of your ‘journey’. It’s just plain horrible and you don’t deserve it. I believe you will survive, you will overcome. The water will recede, the sun will come out, and the day will come that you are safe and secure in your homes again. We’re praying for you.
I donated yesterday to the Texas Diaper Bank. It’s so hard to choose, I will I could give to all of these wonderful organizations.
Kathy McConnell says
Happy Birthday! How wonderful that you and your friends are doing this, Stephanie. I cannot imagine what people are experiencing in Harvey’s wake. I was in Houston once – never left the hotel because the temperature was about 100! – but I gazed at the city from the upper floors and saw how exciting it was. And will be again. My husband and I donated what we could to the Houston Community Foundation, but I’m sure it won’t be the last over the next few months. I am also sending cards to the first responders, as per Sandy Alnock’s suggestions on her blog. Thank you for doing this!!
Betty Sherman says
Stephanie, it’s my 53rd birthday today as well! Happy birthday! And may you be blessed for thinking of your friends in the devastation. I donated at your recommended charity and was thrilled to see that they have raised so much! I’d love to win the CZ, Calico Studio or the sweet book by Mathew Paul Turner. Hope your day is joyful and fulfilling knowing you’re making such a difference. <3
Dana A. says
Happy Birthday!!!
First off, what a wonderful way to celebrate your day! Thank you for posting on where to donate.
I donated to JJ Watt’s fundraiser. I feel so horrible for the Texas communities and its the least I can do. Right now, more than ever, is the time to come together and support one another.
Also, thank you to the awesome companies for giving away prizes!
Dana A. says
Oh, I would love to win anyone of them, but # 11 and #18 are two of my faves:)
Linda E says
Happy, happy birthday, friend! I loved my 40’s and know you are going to rock them! My heart is aching for Texas. I have a friend who lost everything during Super storm Sandy. It took her years to rebuild so I know your hometown has a long road ahead. You are so dear to have organized this Day of Giving. I am giving to the American Red Cross through my husband’s office today. First, his office will match our donation so that means more funds going to a good cause. And the second reason I chose ARC is that a former client is now heading up the organization’s effort at the convention center. I have watched her interviews on television and have total admiration for her composure under pressure –even as her own home started to flood and her family moved to the second floor of their home. I hope people remember to hug the volunteers too!
Nicole Norman says
Happy Birthday! Thank you so much for organizing this. I bought some bottles and things through the Baby2Baby Amazon baby registry. I can’t imagine being a mama (or daddy) to little ones displaced from home. Prayers and love being sent to all affected, and all on the ground helping! If I’m lucky enough to win I’d LOVE the 31 prize (I’ve had my eye on that wallet since you shared about it but haven’t had the extra money to get it yet), or the Happy Planner or BOTM.
Rita H says
Happy Birthday Stephanie! I love a woman who isn’t shy about her age! It’s so hard for me to watch the footage from the comfort of my home in the Dallas Ft Worth area. I see the flooding and know I’ve traveled those roads when I lived there in the 80’s. I have friends there still. Thankfully they are all safe. I gave directly to a recent transplant from Houston whose Uhaul truck is on its way as I write. It will take years to recover. As Texans, we will find ways. My daughter is an educator so looking for ways to also help the ravaged schools. Our little scholars need to get back to school as soon as humanly possible. I was so heartened to see that JJ and his fellow football players were allowed to return to Houston to their families by canceling the game that was to take place between the Cowboys & the Texans tonight. Thank you for all you have done to help Houston!
Jocelyn Thompson says
Houston I cannot begin to imagine what you are going through and feeling. My heart aches for you! My hope is that with love from all over you will bounce back bigger and better than ever. Brighter days are on the horizon. I just believe that for you all!
Happy Birthday Stephanie! Thank you for this opportunity to give back even in a small way! #10 would be awesome but love the opportunity to help the most!!
Susan C. says
Thinking about all of those who have been affected. I love the TX Strong sentiment!
I donated to JJ Watt’s fundraiser. This was my number one choice too. I think he has a genuine heart for others. It’s amazing how much his fundraiser has brought in over the past few days!
Happy 40th Birthday to you! Enjoy your special day. <3
Erica Davis says
My prayers have been for all those in the Houston area! I trust that God is working miracles admits this disaster and His love and work are being shown in small and big ways through His disciples! My brother is down there as a part of a RescueTask Force from Missouri, doing water rescues, and I’m so thankful for him and his team and the many others who can be there to do that work! I donated to American Red Cross and to the Catholic Charities of the Houston Diocese. Our school is holding a donation drive and we will sponsoring classrooms from a school in need down there as well! I wish I could do more, but your post is beautiful and I know many are doing small things to be a part of helping!! Xo!
Donya says
Thank you for doing this Stephanie & happy birthday!! Houston really is a special city. I moved here when I was 26 and it has been my home for 6 years. We’ve even lived in 4 separate suburbs during that time! I know Houston will recover from this and I am glad I am close by to jump in personally and help as well as donate what I can.
Kari Ann Sweeney says
Happy birthday Stephanie! I was happy to donate in honor of Texas and your special day!
#18 would be amazing, but love the chance to support and celebrate the most.

Happy 40th!..I have relative in Houston still hold up in their homes due to the flooding. My heart breads for everyone who was in its path. Abc 4 Utah is doing a water drive. We took water to donate this morning. I wish we could do so much more.
Kelly Oblak says
I donated to Jj Watt’s foundation. I am from a city very close to his hometown and we were proud of him before. It’s off the charts now. His mom and foundation pulled together a physical donation site to fill one stem truck on Tuesday. Last I heard they need three. Heartbreaking what is happening in the Houston area. It’s the least I could do.
And despite all that, Happy 4Oth birthday!
Cathy Kennedy says
I have donated to the Red Cross and will donate to one of your suggestions today in honor of your birthday. I know this will be a long haul for all these folks, but they are Texas Strong and I pray they all will persevere.
Mara L. Siegel says
My heart is in Texas and I am absolutely on board with donating (planning to through my LLR page if you’ve seen that). I do not need a prize, but if you’d like to add another prize, PM me and I’ll do something LLR related. You’re a wonderful person and this is a wonderful way to celebrate you’re birthday – just by being so perfectly you. I hope that you have a wonderful day full of reminders about what a huge heart you have and how much you’re loved. xx.
Alejandra says
Much love and strength to everyone affected by this hurricane. It’s hard to watch everything unfold on tv and feel helpless not being able to to help all the people physically. But if we all come together and donate we can make a difference. I donated to baby2baby amazon registry as a mama myself I can’t imagine what this little souls have to endure during this time. Houston you will come back even stronger. Much love❤️
Kayla Staples says
Prayers to everyone in Texas! My hope is that you’ll find strength, hope, and comfort in each other. Work together to re-build that beautiful city and recover from this tragedy
Kayla Staples says
I forgot above, I donated to the diaper bank. When I saw the photo of the little lady floating safely in a plastic tote, my heart dropped. Hope this helps!
Lilith Eeckels says
Living on the other side of world and seeing such pain and suffering makes my heart hurt. I am so far away and feel really helpless. I am praying each day for all those involved. And as far as I have see, there is so much love, compassion and willingness to help. Seeing this love is uplifting even in such times of dispair. Happy Birthday.
Betsy Smith says
I donated money through my employer’s giving foundation, USAA serves, and I have volunteered at the San Antonio food bank preparing meals for refugees here in our city. I want to thank all of the University of Houston staff who have stayed on campus all week to keep my 17 year old Freshman DD and the other students who stayed to ride out the storm safe and fed. She turns 18 tomorrow and it will be a birthday without cards and packages since there is no mail service. In the grand scheme of things it’s irrelevant but it still hurts my mama heart. Just like the nurses in the NICU who cared for my 32 weeker and her twin brother 18 years ago, the Uof H staff, especially the dorm and cafeteria staff will always hold a special place in my heart. God bless them and their families who they left to serve my family and God bless Houston.
Betsy Smith says
And Happy Birthday Stephanie
Susan Bowers says
Oh, Houston. I ache for you. I pray you will find the good in all the bad and feel the love from everyone. A local ministry here in Savannah, The Dream Campaign, put up an Amazon wish list for clean up supplies (the Executive Director of the ministry is from Houston) and I ordered clean up supplies to be delivered.
Brenda says
The generosity of your friends is overwhelming! I’m crying for the 50 th time since this began. I live in a suburb of Houston that hasn’t flooded yet but we are under a mandatory evacuation order awaiting to see if our homes flood once the river by us crests. I don’t want to lose my home obviously but my husband and I had time to evacuate and bring precious memories (i.e. All My Scrapbooks!). Also, my husband and I have the insurance and the financial resources to start over. My heart breaks for those who had no warning and left only with the clothing on their backs and no resources of their own to start over. I gave to the JJ Watt fund but am aching to do more. Once we are no longer evacuees I am determined to get my hands and feet out there to help where I can. Thank you, Stephanie, for your heart of gold and very Happy Birthday to you!
Erika says
My heart breaks with each new image and update of the destruction that Harvey has caused. But on the flip side, it has been beautiful to also see images that reflect the brightness and strength of the human spirit amid the darkness and loss. Being a momma, I chose to give to the Texas Diaper Bank, after seeing babies and small children being carried above the high tides. I can’t begin to imagine the fear that a mother faces in a moment like that and I hope that supplying this small basic need would help these Texas mommas know that they are seen and they are loved and that God will supply their every need. I pray these tangible gifts provided by strangers all over the country would reignite the hope for the Texas people, and that from this devastation God shows how much He can provide.
Amy Coose says
Happy birthday, Steph! I too am a Houstonian, and am broken hearted for those people in need. I love how we’ve risen up and come together to help those affected, and obviously weTexans are strong but they need all the help we can give. Praying constantly!
Linda says
I donated to the American Red Cross.
My thoughts and prayers are with everyone suffering from this disaster and all those who are helping in any way they can.
Heidi says
I donated bottled water through a friend of mine this week, and our family also plan to donate this weekend to our local church here in Oklahoma that will be traveling down there to volunteer and bring supplies. My heart hurts for the devastation, Texas is one of my very favorite places. I know that Texans are made of pure grit and will come back better than ever. They’ll show Harvey that you “Don’t Mess With Texas!”
Lisa says
My heart goes out to every person affected by this tragedy. Seeing the helpless animals is hard to watch too, so I donated to SPCA. Thank you Stephanie for organizing this and providing us with safe and genuine places to donate to. Hang in there Texans – you’re showing the entire country what STRENGTH is all about. God bless each one of you in the coming days as you begin to rebuild.
abbeyviolet says
I’m from Oklahoma and way too familiar with disasters, but what I’ve learned is that they bring out the best in people and show us the resiliency of our community and world. Texas is our neighbor and has helped us through our disasters so we’re sending love, donations, supplies, personnel, and any other kind of support we can to help That’s what we do. You’ve all got this and will be a strong community on the other side of this pain and struggle. Big hugs and love from your neighbors to the north.
— I donated to Team Rubicon, a local church where Karen Walrond attends, and the neighborhood wishlist above. We’ll keep looking for good ways to help as long as we can.
–Happy Birthday, Stephanie! You have such a wonderful, kind, generous spirit. I’ve grateful for your presence and your years of love and service.
— I slightly prefer prize 12, but not in it for the prizes.
Jen Williams says
First of all I want to wish you a very happy birthday and thank you for choosing to continue to live you life with kindness first. This is an incredible way to pay tribute to your home town and support them when they need it the most. I am in Ontario, Canada and have been watching the coverage of the aftermath of Harvey and my heart breaks for everyone effected by it. I pray that they continue to have the strength and courage to get through this as they rebuild their lives. I have donated to the red cross and keep everyone in my prayers!
Donna Griffin says
Houston has a long road ahead to recovery from this disaster. I am heartbroken to see what those poor people are dealing with … and have renewed faith in humankind for the overwhelming help from people jumping in to help in whatever way they can. And you too are a fine example of a person doing what you can to help others!! I appreciate your blog helping direct traffic to the fundraisers that the people of Texas can benefit the most from as I want to ensure our donation gets to those who need it most. I took your suggestion and donated to JJ Watt’s fundraising efforts. I hope you have a wonderful 40th birthday! With lots of hugs and love!
Holly S says
My heart hurts for all those touched directly or indirectly by these floods. In RI a few years ago we had historic flooding and my in laws had 4 feet of water on their first floor. They were safe but lost lots of pictures and meaningful things. Yes, the water receded and yes the house was rebuilt but the trauma of it lives on. Those scary memories never leave them. Praying that all the goodness happening outweighs the nightmare of all this. xoxo
We donated to the Red Cross who is collecting money for Texas in our area.
Deborah Weiss says
Every time I watch a news broadcast I try to put myself in “their” place. I can’t imagine losing everything and in some cases, losing a loved one. I wish there was more I could do for them besides give $ and pray.
Stay strong Texas!
Shannon Zickel says
The size of your heart never ceases to amaze me, and you attract so many generous people as well! I’ve donated cash through a special Red Cross fund through work so that we can get that all important company match… and we lost my Nannie last week at the age of 90 and she had so many awesome clothes and shoes that we are figuring out how to get down to some of the assisted living places that had to be evacuated! I have no ties personally to Houston but really feel compelled to help in anyway I can. Oh and I had a major crush on the total bromance of Biggio/Bagwell 😉 Love you girl… Prayers for Houston! Keep on doing what your doing!
Joan says
It is more blessed to give than to receive. You have embodied that powerful spirit of love and generosity on your birthday. What a joy to realize that turning another year older actually does mean another year better!! We will come together and figure out how to spread joy and love to those people underwater who have lost everything. We must stay hopeful and focused on getting to a place where we can muscle down and start rebuilding! Texas tough!
Keely says
I have friends who live in Houston who were blessedly spared any flooding in their homes. But there are so many that need assistance. I hope and pray that lessons learned from Katrina and Sandy recoveries will benefit the people of Houston. I have donated to JJ’s fundraiser. I love JJ Watt and trust that the funds will go to the purpose intended. Thank you for your blog post and generous sponsors. Happy Birthday Stephanie!! You, as always, ROCK!!!
Pam says
Happy Birthday Stephanie (40 is a great age)! Thank you for coordinating this effort to help those so affected by Hurricane Harvey. I wanted to donate and help in some way and your blog was informative regarding how best to do that. I just donated through Amazon Prime to send duct tape to the American Red Cross to assist with their signage. It seems like such a little thing but I’m sure every little bit helps. As with other communities who have experienced devastation, I know that the Houston residents along with support from Texas and the US will join together to recover from and rebuild their homes and lives.
Becky says
Thank you, Stephanie, for using your birthday to help those in need. Thanks to all who contributed “give-aways”. I was pleased to see the Baby2Baby Amazon registry. Our granddaughter turned one year old yesterday. She was born two days before we were hit by a hurricane here.
To those in Texas, there are no words to share that seem big enough. You have certainly shown the rest of the US and the world what it is like to love your neighbor. Praying for all of you!!
Keely says
I have donated to Houston SPCA in the name of my husband, Kim. We have followed the work of this fantastic organization for years. Thank you for your blog post and generous sponsors. Happy Birthday Steph. I loved my 40’s and I trust you will too. (((hugs)))
Keely says
I’ve donated to the Houston Food Bank. Thank you so much for your passion and sharing this information with your blog readers. It’s a great help for those of us hundreds and thousands of miles away who want to do something to assist the good and innocent people of Houston affected by the storm. XOXOXO
sarah says
Happy Happy Birthday!! Thank you so much for organizing this, my heart is just breaking for these poor people. Praying hard! I donated to a few places including Samaritan’s Purse, I so wish I could do more ;( xoxo
Vera Yates says
Happy birthday, Stephanie!! I am hosting fund raising for the Houston Humane Society and donating directly to some of the local rescue. As Houstonian it means so much for me to see the outporing of love and support for my community. Please exclude me from the giveaway. I just want to say thank you. I have followed your blog for years and at one time I did saw you at the airport during CHA but too skittish to say hi. I love your big heart and may all your birthday wishes come true. Thank you for supporting Houston. <3

Happy Birthday. My heart is bleeding for my fellow Texans. Thank everyone who has given to this tragedy. I gave what I could. I just wrote on my calendar to give more in a month. Thanks to all who gave the awesome gifts.
Jen Miller says
This is amazing. Happy Birthday! When I turned 40 I was the same way – I earned these years! I donated to JJ Watts. I have never been to Texas but I have MANY many friends there and my heart is broken for them. Just like Katrina all over again. My prayers are for Texas. We are all Americans and in this together!
Debbie says
Happy Birthday Stephanie!!! What a wonderful idea for your birthday!! I have donated. My husband’s daughter lives in Houston, and thankfully is safe. For those especially who are suffering and for all of those affected, we send our love and our prayers to you! We admire your courage and your ability to be strong and to stick together in the most difficult of times. We stand behind you and you inspire us to continue to help you and those in our own communities also!! Love and prayers!!

Happy birthday, Stephanie!
Yes, I donated a couple days ago, $50 through the Red Cross. But I wanted to do more.
I just went to the Amazon wish list and picked out a few things to get sent to Houston. Thank you for making it easy for me to do more.
My heart is bleeding for everyone of those people, the adults and the children. I keep thinking about everything they’ve lost.
Seeing on TV what they’re going through puts my seven days without heat during Hurricane Sandy to shame. I was still in my home, I was still able to boil water, drive to the Panera near my house to use their Wi-Fi. Houston as they knew it is just gone. Their homes are gone.
It’s going to take years to rebuild, and I’m going to have to remember to *continue* to help. Just these two little donations, the ones I made yesterday and today, sure they’ll help. But I must do more.
Thanks for making it easy for me to do a little bit more today.
Jen says
I’m so heartbroken for the people who are hurting from this terrible storm. Yesterday I donated to Emily Ley’s fundraiser that is helping to bring diapers to the babies and adults who need that resource. I can’t imagine how it feels to have to leave everything you know with a moments notice. I am praying for the comfort and peace these people need.
Linda says
Happy Birthday, Stephanie! What a great way to acknowledge your birthday. I donated to the Houston Food Bank. Having clean water and food is a basic human need. It is not enough, but it is so necessary. I hope that all the people affected will know that they are not alone.
Rachel says
Praying for all the cheer teams that my daughter competes against every season. We meet lots of Texas families as we travel for her to compete.
Jolene says
I gave, hope you have a great birthday Stephanie!

Happy Birthday Stephanie! What an amazing gift you’re giving to Houston, bringing people together. I’m so happy to see this. i gave to J.J. Watts foundation, the Houston Food Bank and the Undies campaign on amazon. So many amazing, compassionate hearts coming out of this. To think in the beginning of the month we had Charlottesville and then we have this life changing disaster but its bringing so many good people together and so many hearts are being loved. It brings peace to my heart to know we are in majority a good people and will be there for one another. I’m praying for Houston and Louisiana and all the people that were affected by this. I know together we will get through this. Hugs to you Stephanie, thank you again for your kind and loving soul, such a great idea to share your birthday wishes with those in need. God Bless you!

This summer we have had small “disasters” affecting our friends, then our community and now our Houston “neighbors”. Each time we have tried to give what we could. Yesterday, my husband took over 4 pairs of running shoes to our local Fleer Feet to donate for #shoesforhouston. We have purchased cookies from The Hayley Cakes on IG and plan to share some with my colleague who grew up in Texas and has parents & siblings & their families & friends still there. I have signed up with Mrs. D’s corner to donate gently used/like new books for classrooms affected because I have plenty in bins that I’m no longer using now that my grade level has changed. Finally, I was just at Target shopping the sales with the Cartwheel app to get underwear for men, women, girls, boys via Brene Brown. Living in New York State we see lots of snow and we experienced damage after a summer thunderstorm a few years ago, but nothing like what Hurricane Harvey has done. It is better to give than to receive and what a great way to celebrate your birthday! Hope it’s a happy one!
Leslie McLaughlin says
Hi Stephanie, Congrats on your birthday!!! My heart is sad right now for all the people in Texas and Louisiana. I made two donations for your birthday. One to the SPCA and one the Houston Food Bank.
I’ll keep giving every week for a long time!

Wow Stephanie what a great idea for a birthday celebration! There is no greater satisfaction than helping others and doing good. I already had mad respect for JJ Watt as a player and a human being, so I chose to support his fundraising efforts. I also gave to my local food bank, which I work with professionally for my day job. They have a network of food banks and will send support to areas experiencing crisis, such as a natural disaster. I send love and prayers to all of those affected by Hurricane Harvey and many blessings to all of those who have helped in any way that they can. It is so generous of you to offer the giveaways and I would love the CZ Designs stamp sets or the online card classes prize.
Nancy says
What a wonderful way to celebrate your milestone birthday! Selfless. Seeing all the devastation and lives lost and impacted each night on the news is heartbreaking. I hear Texans are strong and will no doubt weather this storm. Doing my small part by donating to the Baby2Bay Texas cause, thinking how scary it must be for the little ones.
Sunny Milleson says
Thank you so much for putting this together. My parents winter in Aransas Pass. They have been told to stay away from Aransas Pass for now, so they are unable to check on their things there. In true Texan spirit their friends who live there full time are checking on things for them and keeping them updated.
I love seeing all the helping going on between strangers. It makes my heart proud to see how Texans have handled this disaster. I’ve donated to the JJ fund and will donate locally in Aransas Pass as well. Thank you so much. Much love to those in Texas who are showing the rest of us how to handle a disaster with grace and hope. XOXO
Anna Jones says
Happy Birthday, Stephanie, and what a super idea for your celebration!! That’s definitely paying it forward! I’ve donated to the SPCA in Houston through Amazon’s easy process, and we’re also contributing to a friend’s GoFundMe to help her mom’s flooding/temp living situations. I hope to do more!
Luann says
Thank you for your inspiring post. I kept debating on where to give. Your suggestions gave me the information I needed, and I chose several different ones. Thank you for kicking me off the fence!
Stacy says
I want to send a big hug and a cup of coffee to every person in a boat gathering all the pets the fleeing residents had to very reluctantly leave behind. I made my donation to the Houston SPCA Monday night after seeing a picture of about 8 dogs in someone’s fishing boat. (Thanks for rallying everyone who wants to do something but doesn’t know where to turn, Stephanie!)
Jen Boumis says
I donated to the Houston Diaper Bank, for both babies and the elderly. My heart is breaking for everyone in the area and I so wish I could do more.
I’m partial to the Happy Planner, Studio Calico, BOTM and Kelly Purkey but, am far more interested in seeing Houston rise!
Happy birthday Stephanie!
Jewel says
Happy Birthday Stephanie. I was moved by your words on how much Houston means to you. I have several friends in the Houston area and have been shocked and horrified with their stories, videos and photos on fb. My heart goes out to the people of Texas. It is wonderful that you have given several options of how to donate for this important cause. I just saw a news report that so many donations of clothes and other items are often not needed and it is nice to know there are organizations that will truly help those in need.
Erika says
I’d love to win the SIMON SAYS goodies!!
I just donated to the JJ WATTS as you suggested. I trust him too. Oh listen, I’m not even gonna try to pretend to know what Houston is going through. When I was a kid in late 1950’s before sewers were in, our street always flooded. As a kid it was fun to play in that nasty water with my neighbor friends. Grosses me out now to think about it. But what I never noticed were the homes that were under water. Never took notice of their ruined furniture pulled out of the homes after the water subsided. What I noticed was the HORRIBLE stinch. My heart just goes out to everyone down there who have lost so much and then will have to deal with the stinch. May God be with them, give them grace, hope and comfort in these trying times.
Erika says
Oh duh!!! Happy 40th birthday!! You don’t look a day over 30!!! Serious!
Barb Glasier says
Happy Birthday, Stephanie, I loved your post and I feel all our hearts are breaking for Houston and areas around. I am sure we as a nation will come together and help these people for as long as it takes. We are here for them.
Katie Adkison says
Happy Birthday, Steph!
I love your words and feel the same way!! I too donated to JJ Watts’ charity. The San Antonio Food Bank has asked for volunteers to come together and put together care packages at their warehouse for the flood victims. I volunteered today and it was AMAZING the number of people who showed up to help and are signed up to help in the coming days. If we all pull together and do our share, we can make such an impact. Thank you for this beautiful post. Huge hugs from Texas!
Karen C says
Happy Birthday Stephanie, what a great thing for you to do on your birthday.
We’ve been sending prayers and donating to the Red Cross but I noticed on your list the Texas Diaper Bank had adult diapers on it and it made me cry thinking about the elderly and just how much harder it will be for them so I sent them some.
It’s great to see people come together and help in whatever way they can. Take care.
Meghan says
Happy Birthday to you! This is such a lovely thing you’re doing. Btw, I cried watching you cry in your instastories today. I lived in Houston for a short time, and it’s been surreal and so heartbreaking watching the news. I made a donation this morning to red cross, which actually is delayed because they have had such an overwhelming response, which is just so fantastic. They actually have so many donations that there is a delay in accepting them! Sent something through amazon as well, to undies for everyone.
Thank you so much for being such an inspiration!
Candy says
Happy Birthday!!! What a wonderful thing you are doing through the crafty world to organize this. I can only imagine how devastating this must be for the people in Houston. As soon as he announced it I was drawn to JJ Watts fundraiser – he has always impressed me as a stand up guy and kind, so my donation went to him, no question that it would all go to the people of the Houston area!!
Kristy Oliver says
Seeing all the videos & photos of what’s going on in SE Texas is so heartbreaking that being said Texans seem to have big hearts (I have a lot of friends from Texas!) & with the help of people from other states it helps the situation a little less sad.
I’m a neighbor from the state directly above Texas so my husband & I donated some miscellaneous toiletries yesterday & while it wasn’t much I hope it helps a little.
April W says
Wow. This is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. What a wonderful way to inspire people to give back. <3 I donated a couple of days ago and I'm praying that everyone who is able to will do what they can. Texas needs us all right now!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I know it's a sad time right now but I pray you'll be able to take some time today for you…to celebrate you and your amazing life. 🙂
These are some wonderful prizes!! I would truly love any of it but the CZ stamps and Carpe Diem Planner both really caught my eye so if possible, I'd love to be entered for either of those!
Bless you Stephanie. You're just fabulous.
– April W
P.S. To all those who have been affected by this crazy storm, please know that you are being thought about and prayed for every single day. My heart aches for all of you. Stand strong and know that God will get you through this…He's with you always! HUGE hugs coming your way.

Thank you Stephanie for arranging this as your Birthday wish. I donated to JJ Watt’s Foundation.
I am wishing all the families strength to get through this tragedy and knowledge there are many offering their thoughts and prayers in the days ahead.

My heart breaks for Houston, as well as the rest of SE Texas. I have been completely awed by the love and compassion and spirit of togetherness that has been shown since this disaster occurred. To see Texans – and really Americans – come together without a thought of anything other than caring has been so inspiring. I know that SE Texas will rise from these ashes – or should I say flood waters – and be a shining light to the world!! Prayers to everyone affected by Harvey and know that you are in so many prayers!!
Michelle T says
Happy 40th birthday Stephanie! What a kind and compassionate heart you have. Thank you for making it easy to do something tangible in such a DIFFICULT situation. I was easily able to order underwear through Brene Brown’s link to amazon. The images coming out of this region bring me to tears. I pray for all affected and for patience going forward in the long process of recovery. May thet find joy in the small things and know that so many of us have them in our hearts and prayers.
Gayle W. says
Happy Birthday, Stephanie. Wow, you are right – that is an awesome collection of giveaways from your amazing and generous friends. (I’m wishing for #18, the ThirtyOne Mystery Box.) I decided on giving thru the Amazon Wish List. It seems like that option will put much needed supplies in the hands that need them in a matter of days. Enjoy your birthday, sweet girl. You deserve it. xoxo
JillT says
Happy Birthday and thank you for spurring us to action or another action:) Igave through a church disaster service but I loved Brene’s Undies group! Many blessings to all of you affected by this disaster AND to all on the front line helping do what we cannot do long distance. Stay strong!
Barb Barnes says
Happy Birthday, Stephanie! What a wonderful way to celebrate. I have been researching organizations to donate to, and you have so many of my choices on your list. Houston Food Bank, SPCA, United Way are all good for me. And I love the undies idea from Brene Brown. I wish I lived closer to Texas as I would love to volunteer, but perhaps I can find something here in CA where I live. It is just heartwrenching, and donations will be needed for months on end.
I haven’t donated yet – plan to today – so don’t put me in the prize contest. Not important to me…I have waaaay too much stuff already, lol!!
Again, Happy Birthday and I hope that this day brings you everything you hoped for.
Pressley says
Love that you are doing this. What a good example you’re setting for your sweet girls.
I donated to the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Fund. (Here’s a link if anyone is interested in donating there: https://missionaries.namb.net/projects/full/hurricane-harvey-response) I volunteered with the group in Mississippi a year after Katrina and was incredibly impressed with how long they stayed on the ground helping. They were in Houston a few days before Harvey hit and they’ll be there for literal years to come. The groups do this for disasters all over the country and the world.
Chelsea Miller says
What a wonderful thing to do!! I live up in Canada, and while I can’t get out there in a boat (which like yourself is my #1 thing I want to do right now), I have given personally to one family in need from the scrappy world that I saw another scrappy friend post about… and I have also given to a private fundraising drive of another online mommy friend of mine in Texas to fill a semi with diapers, personal items, water, etc. that was heading up that way 2 days ago. I wish I could do more…. but I know that every donation helps and will add up. Thinking of you all in Texas, wishing you nothing but the best in rebuilding into something greater than you can imagine.
Linda W says
Happy Birthday Stephanie! I supported the Weingars neighborhood through Amazon and wish them well as they work together toward recovery.
If you happen to draw my name, I’d like the Studio Calico kits or the magazine subscription.
Thank you for encouraging all of us to help our neighbors.

I am here in Houston. We survived Hurricane Harvey and are giving back. We have joined forces with Eastersiders RC, B⭐️EAST MG, Harley-Davidson and F7 Group. We have set up 3 drop off locations, a yougiving page to raise funds and items to replace school supplies for as many children as we can and distribute donations of all the clothing, toiletries, food and water we are receiving as well.
We lost our home and all of our belongings in Hurricane Ike and are paying it forward. We have been out everyday rescuing people, Getting people to dry homes and distributing donations. God is good.
Thank you for everything you are doing. And I hope that your birthday breathes fresh life into your beautiful heart and soul. ~Alison Lacy

Thank you for the list. I’ve donated but please do not consider me for a prize. I just can’t imagine what they are going through. We were on the edge of Hurricane Sandy and the worst for us was losing power. Not such a big deal compared to what Texans are dealing with.
Happy birthday!
Evelyn says
Only you would GIVE in YOUR birthday. I knew you were from Texas but I didnt realize you were from Houston. This must be affecting you very much. I have appreciated hearing first hand stories from bloggers like you since I am very far removed from that area and that type of weather catastrophe. This is an amazing thing you are doing. And happy 40th. You don’t look a day over 20. (You do actually look very youthful!) Have a wonderful birthday!!!!
Karen Young says
I cannot imagine what everyone in Texas is going through. The photos and video are mind-blowing. I have tears rolling down my face when I watch the news at night. BUT, I have seen amazing compassion and love shining through and I know that will help the healing.
I have donated to JJ Watt’s fund and also a group called Heroes for Children, a Texas-based charity that helps families with Children battling cancer. Their site is http://heroesforchildren.org/ if anyone is interested. This is all horrific enough, never mind dealing with it all with a child going through cancer treatment.
Happy Birthday Stephanie!! Great idea holding this giveaway!
Peggy says
Happy Birthday Stephanie! Your sweet message on IG Stories got me right where it counts. I had already started my donations today so I am happy to share what I decided to do. First, my employer opted to match for Red Cross donations so I went for that opportunity. I also did a donation for Undies For All at Brene’s urging. Figured their wholesale pricing would make my dollars go further. I am also a regular contributor to an organization called Modest Needs (modestneeds.org) that focuses on smaller needs in like the $1-2k range. They did some really good work on these types of needs in the aftermath of Katrina and Sandy and have an unlimited matching grant through midnight tomorrow so I wanted to take advantage of that as well.
Sending many positive thoughts to the people impacted. I am grateful that the few people I know there are safe and mostly unimpacted but hope that families throughout Houston find all the support they need in these difficult days.

First Happy Birthday!! Second, thank you so much for what you are doing for all of us in Texas! So far I have donated to the Pasadena Animal Shelter Amazon Wishlist. We are in Pearland and didn’t get water in our home. My husband went into to work today and we will be giving money directly to co-workers with flooded homes. We’ll probably give to JJ Watt, too. Let me just say the guilt is overwhelming for those of us that didn’t flood. It is simply heart wrenching to see your neighbors dealing with the loss of everything they own. ❤️

Happy Birthday!
How generous you are to make wonderful offers. I don’t need anything. AustinPetsAlive, JJ Watts,Red Cross, don.t remember the others right now.. Texas Diaper Bank. No big donations, figured I’d spread it around. Will be doing more in the next few days…..
Again, thanks!

Happy, Happy Birthday Stephanie. What a great plan for an awesome birthday! I am so sad for all that I have seen on the news. I have family and friends in Rockport and Beaumont, so I know their needs! I too have given to the JJ Watt fund. First, he is from Wisconsin and grew up 10 miles from my house! Second, I echo the thoughts that he will be sure to give each and every last dollar to the people who need it! I would love to win any prize!
Susan Koss says
Happy Birthday Stephanie! Thank you so much for celebrating your birthday by giving this gift to Houston! I initially donated to the Red Cross and today to Save the Children. I was a preschool teacher for more than 35 years and knew I had to do something for the children who are being so impacted by this disaster! I’m from Olympia Washington and I know you lived in this area years ago. Thank you again for inspiring people to give where their heart leads them!

My husband’s company is taking several trucks and trailers full of supplies to Houston. We are donating water, blankets and diapers. We also called vendors and collected even more. The trucks and trailers are completely full and leaving tonight.
My heart and prayers go out to all those who have lost so much. Thank you for being a driving force for good and Happy Birthday!
Kristine Sherman says
Bless your kind and giving soul. I decided to donate to Houston SPCA. I want to know that The displaced animals can have a warm bed and food. Thanks for sharing your generous human spirit.

Thank you for pointing me in the direction of JJ Watts charity. My prayers go out to all those affected by this. And Happy Birthday to you Stephanie. ❤️

Happy birthday Stephanie. Such a caring gesture to raise money on your biirthday for your hometown. Thanks to all the sponsors donating fantastic prizes to encourage giving.
I’ve been texting money to the Red Cross on my cell phone several times. The footage is heartbreaking and I can’t imagine the loss they feel.
Suz Gray says
I donated at Kroger’s today to the Red Cross again
Thanks again for your sweet spirit and caring heart.

Happy Birthday Stephanie and thank you for doing this! Our hearts go out to all going through this. We donated through the JJ Watts Fund Raiser and encouraged our family and friends to do the same by sharing on Facebook and Twitter to over 20K followers.
Did not do this to win a prize, but if I do, would love the Happy Planner package.
Tara Johnson says
This is such a wonderful thing you are doing! We are just north of Dallas and it’s heartbreaking to see the devestation. I love seeing people pulling together to help each other. Thanks to all who donated prizes too!
We have sent donations to Red Cross, ASPCA, & Diaper Bank. We’ve purchased toiletries and pet supplies to send down through my husband’s work. My daughter is organizing a bake sale at school to adopt a Houston classroom in need. (#3 and #11 are my faves)

Happy Birthday Stephanie. This whole mess is incomprehensible. I can’t begin to wrap my brain and heart around the destruction. I was born in Orange and moved to Houston when I was 11. Both cities are underwater. I have $ and signed up to foster pets. Hopefully this giving tree will do lots of good!
Jo says
First of all Happy Birthday and thank you for doing this. I just donated to a local food bank here in Phoenix (Harvest Compassion Center). They are matching all donations and will be sending to them Houston food bank. My heart goes out to all the families affected by this terrible tragedy. My daughter just moved here from Houston after living there for 15 years. I am grateful she is here.
The prizes are just the icing on the cake but a kit from Caluco Studios would be nice! Thank you.

I donated lots of men’s & women’s underwear to Undies for Everyone (via Amazon link provided).
Certainly didn’t donate to win, but if I do, prizes #8 and #18 are faves!

Dear Stephanie, What a beautiful post. I’m sorry your heart is hurting so much on your big celebration.
Houstonians have shown us this last week what an incredibly diverse and united country we can be. Houston, we’ve got your back, today, tomorrow, and next year.
Happy Birthday, Stephanie. Forty was my favorite age. You are starting it off beautifully. I have given to three charities in the past three days (including Undies because of Brene’s IG post), and we’ve identified at least two more that we will be supporting . I’d love the KP, Cathy Z or Ali E prizes but really, I’m just happy to be in a position to help. ❤️
Shari Gummow says
Happy Birthday!
My heart goes out to everyone in Huston. I can’t even imagine. Being a teacher myself, my heart has been breaking for all the teachers that spent all summer getting their classrooms ready for a great year just to have it all destroyed the first week of school. I’m adopting a classroom (through Sun, sand, and second grade blog and fb). I hope to bring cheer to a teacher and their students.
Mallory J says
Happy birthday!
Thank you so much for doing all of this for my hometown. It’s going to take a long time to rebuild but with all yalls help we will rebuild and be stronger. My family was very fortunate during this hurricane and came out dry but many of my friends were not as fortunate. Along with some of my school babies. I teach 3rd grade at a title 1 school and know any donation counts, no matter how big or small. We will get through this if we all stick together! I love my city and I love seeing all the supporters! I have donated to 3 different organizations and will continue to do so. Our school plans on doing a fundraiser as well! Thank you again for all the support! Please keep the prayers coming!
Kristen says
Thank you Stephanie and happy birthday ! I donated to the American Red Cross through school and read about JJ and wanted to give more- so just donated there. Thank you for bringing his fundraising efforts to our attention! I hope and pray for the safEty of the people and animals in tExas and wish them strength to persevere through this DevasTaying timE.

First, happy birthday Stephanie! Own your age. I wear mine like a badge of honor! (55)
You’re a lucky girl to have Texas in your roots. I am not from there, but my lifelong love of the Lone Star state is deep. When I was a baby, my parents took me to visit my great aunt in Fort Worth. She planted my bare feet in the Texas dirt and someting stuck. I’m not mad about it.
As a little girl, an obsession with horses led me, with my limited exposure and knowledge, to believe that all cowboys, including John Wayne (my hero) were from Texas. When other little girls were asked what they wanted to be when they grew up, they answered nurse, teacher or mommy. I said I wanted to be a cowboy. Not a cowgirl, a cowboy. Again…i was very young!
In adulthood, I had the good fortune to work with country artists from Texas. It was always a good week when I was sent to their home states to visit or cover their shows. I’ve enjoyed Pat Green at Stubb’s while I ate barbecue, I’ve applauded Alan Jackson at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo at Reliant before heading over to two-step at the Hideout during Jesse Raub’s set. And some of my favorite times have been at Billy Bob’s where I’ve watched Wade Bowen or Randy Rogers and then hit that Whataburger drive-thru for taquitos. The kolaches and Buc-ee’s, ringing the bell at Oasis, strolling the Riverwalk with pals, shopping in Dallas……
A long answer, I know, but I do love Texas, so I’ve done what I can do, I’ve donated to the Red Cross, and to Chris Young’s GoFundMe campaign, and will be delivering a carload of water, cleaning supplies and diapers to a truck headed to Texas this weekend. I also be ordering several t-shirts whose proceeds are going to the relief efforts. And as soon as I know I won’t be in the way, I’m planning to drive down to lend a bit of muscle to the clean-up efforts. And the prayers have been abundant.
Isn’t it wonderful how the U.S is rallying behind this effort? I love seeing some of my favorite brands, Happy Planner and Carpe Diem, have stepped up to help out.
My fear is that in a few weeks, people will become complacent about the recovery process. So I’m planning on visiting Texas every chance I can, to pump a few dollars back into their economy. I hope others do, too. It’s an magical place with something for everyone.
Friend says
Dear Houston and other cities affected by this horrible disaster. I, along with the rest of America, have watched in horror, and wish we could, help more. Please know we are praying for you.
Stephanie, this is wonderful…and would love the treasures and gifts, however, I’d much rather, they be used to be raised, for more money for Texas/Louisiana.
Becky says
My heart hurts for the people of Texas but at the same time I am also in awe of them. They are showing the world what true brotherly love looks like. My heart is also ready to burst with love! I pray our Heavenly Father will continue to hold the citizens of Houston in His arms and touch the hearts of the people of this country to reach out in love and help where ever they can. Thank you for making it easy for me to donate , I have been thinking ab out it all day.
Karen says
Happy birthday sweet Stephanie! I donated to undies and plan to continue to do different donations throughout the year especially as things wane out over the course of the year. I’d love the planner one of course since you got me hooked on the happy planner. btw, i was always told 40 is the beginning of the best years of your life and to be fair life is already pretty lovely but here’s to hoping it gets even better from here onwards. Thank you for being you, happy birthday and to many many many more.
Katie Bartlett says
Today I donated because I hope and pray that if something ever happened here (live in earthquake country) that someone would help me. My daughter and I donated to Adopt a classroom through her employer who is matching all donations. I am going to also make a donation to help all the stranded animals!
Thank you Stephanie for organizing SO many people to do such a wonderful thing.
Michelle Peacey says
Each day I watch the news and my heart breaks for the people of Houston and all that have been effected by the storm. And then I see the personal stories of people helping and already rebuilding and my heart rebounds a little. I will keep these people in my prayers for a long time. I donated at work because my employer will match my donation. So much needs to be done. Thank you for this – I don’t need to win anything. I just want to help. Perhaps if I win there is some way to donate that to someone in Houston?
Sarah says
I donated to the Texas Diaper Bank when I heard that diapers were not a part of other emergency relief supplies. I lost everything in an apartment fire a few years ago so I know the pain these people are going through but I can’t imagine going through that and also wondering how you are going to keep your kid in clean diapers.
Leigh says
Happy Birthday! I love that you are doing this. I’m a Texas girl, too, now in Colorado, and my heart has been so heavy as we’ve watched this unfold. I have been buying underwear like a madwoman since Brene shared her video about that. I am praying desperately for those affected, and cheering on all of the wonderful people I see coming together to help and to bless the communities of Southeast Texas.
SherryG says
I gave to the Salvation Army through our local group. I learned a lot about this organization and its local leadership during the hurricane that devastated my hometown back in Oct 2016. I volunteered with the mass care team at the local emergency operations center and saw all the good they did for our area in Hurricane Matthew and since…
Becky says
Just went to Undies for Everyone and gave there as well also. What a great idea. I purchased in the size my grandchild wear. Again thank you for doing this. Happy Birthday.
Tina Thunell says
Texas, you are in my prayers. Stephanie, God bless you, and Happy Birthday. I gave through Samaritan’s Purse. The prizes are all lovely. Your friends are beyond kind and generous.
Pamela Critchlow says
I donated to JJ Watt’s fundraiser because my heart goes out to everyone… So much love. I can’t even imagine what everyone is feeling. This will be a really rough road ahead and with global warming we really do have to think about how we are affecting the earth. So much love coming from up here in Canada.
PS: Happy birthday Stephanie!!!!! welcome to the awesome 40s!
Youngmi says
Thank you for the reminder! I’ve been meaning to donate to the food bank but it kept slipping my mind. I can’t even fathom what’s happened in Texas. The images I’ve seen seem unreal and impossible. But what stands out even more to me are stories of people helping each other. At times even putting their own lives at risk to help a stranger or a furry friend. The world can be a frightening and heartbreaking place these days but seeing the best in people shine through during the darkest moments gives me hope that maybe it will all be okay.
Happy birthday and thank you for putting this together! If I’m chosen, I’d prefer either the Kelly Purkey, Amy Tangerine, or Book of the Month prize but really anything would be amazing. And thank you to all the generous giveaway donors! These prizes are seriously awesome. Thanks so much for the chance to win and reminder to donate!
Shane Cherney says
Happy happy birthday!!! Just made a few donations!! This is awesome!! I may make a few more. All the prizes look fun, but if I had my choice, I would choose 8, 12 or 24! Have a wonderful day!!
Krissy says
I want to thank the people of Houston for showing me hope. Everything on the news for the last few weeks has really had me down about people, society in general – but the grace, humanity, care and love
y’all have shown each other in the face of such total devesation and struggle has brought me so much hope. While I would do anything possible for this to never have happened to any of you, I admire the way you are facing it and reacting to it – together. Each one of you are in my prayers!
Emilie says
Happy Birthday, Stephanie!! I am also a misplaced Houstonian… I have donated what I can to other charities, but who I am donating most to are to my parents. They lost EVERYTHING. And I found out from my sister that just last year they took off flood insurance because it was such a high premium and my parents are both retired and on a fixed income.
So, My siblings and I are currently donating furniture, food, and money when we can. Our extended family came together to remove EVERYTHING from my childhood home, lots of pictures destroyed.. my heart is breaking that I am so far away that I cannot do more.
My hometown, has been under seige by water, and it breaks my heart.. but what makes me smile and gives me hope is seeing everyone come together and help each other. Being kinder than necessary.
Youngmi says
I just donated to the Texas Diaper Bank as well. I don’t have children so I’ve never thought about the need for diapers during a crisis – for both babies and adults!
Rena G says
Thank you so much from one Houstonian to another. My family and I live in Clear Lake and were so fortunate during Harvey. We did not get any water in our home but a lot of our family was not so lucky. We have spent the last few days venturing out so that I can see that our families are okay. While they are okay, their homes have suffered. We spent the day at my mom’s pulling soaked carpet out of her room yesterday. She s in a wheelchair and it’s tough to see her go through this but even she can see how fortunate she is. We are so blessed that we are able to give in a moment like this. Our monetary donations, t-shirt purchases and clothing dropoffs do not compare to the satisfaction we got after dropping off 200 pounds of meat out of our own freezers. Houston and the Texas coast will survive and rebuild. This grit makes me so proud to be a Texan right now. Happy Birthday. And prize 17 is awesome. I love Ali.
Julie S. says
Happy Birthday to a generous soul! I love that you’re celebrating your birthday in this way. I say Brené Brown’s video this morning about Undies for Everyone and it really touched me. There are so many things that we take for granted.
I’ve only been to Texas once in my life and it happened to be to Houston. Everyone we met was so kind and gracious. I’ve been so moved by what I’ve seen of the bravery and kindness of the people there through this tragedy. I know that Texans have a reputation of being tough and resilient and I have faith that that will stand through during this crisis!
Candy Carpenter says
Inspired by all everyone is doing to help strangers, who by no fault of their own, might have lost everything. My heart breaks for them. I purchased an item from the American Red Cross Amazon Wish List this morning and just now sent a donation to the JJ Watt fund.
Bobbi Staver says
Thanks for all of this. My prayers are for healing and courage for all involved. I am donating to Catholic Charities through my church. I like #24
Becky Martin says
Happy Birthday Steph. What a wonderful thing you are doing and the community is doing to help others. I’ve donated to the Houston SPCA, Red Cross and participated in a fundraiser where all the money will be donated to with the SPCA or Salvation Army in Houston. DOnated items for shelters and will give more in the coming weeks.
Kiara Portillo says
Firstly, I want to say happy birthday and thank you for your kind words! I am currently in Houston right now and it’s been a heart breaking situation. However, the love and support from all around has reassured me in my heart and mind that there is still good in this world. We as a city have come together as one to help one another in our times of need. From our first responders coming in from all over Texas to our very own civilians and neighbors helping each other out it’s been an amazing response! From the bottom of my heart I would like to thank you too for reaching out and helping the cause! Together as one, this too shall pass! Thank and again. Happy birthday and may god bless you with many more.

Oh Stephanie. Thank you so much for sharing links to donate. I never know where is the best place for money to be used. What a great way to celebrate your birthday. Joy in the midst of pain.
My heart goes out to all of Texas that has been affected. Please know that my prayers go up for you. For strength, health, and the recover process to be filled with ease and grace. Know that God is with you. This is not His will. Many hugs!
I gave to JJ Watts. I would’ve given without a prize but if you insist…1, 3, 18, 26, or 27 would be beyond amazing! It feels weird to even consider a prize just for giving. Thank you though!
Bec Kilgore says
I have already donated some other ways but I live in San Antonio and we barely missed the bullet. I lived in Pasadena in 1979 when Claudette dumped a ton of rain on us. I thought that flooding was bad. Little did we know.
I just donated to the site JJ Watts is using just now. I am so proud and my heart is so full seeing all the people helping in so many ways. I am almost speechless.
Happy birthday! God Bless Texas and the people in LA affected by this awful storm.
Gina Johnson says
Happy Birthday to you! I love how you embrace 40! As a cancer survivor, I remind myself, and my family, how lucky we are to celebrate each year. And, 40 isn’t so bad!! This is a great post and a great reminder to donate. Thank you!

Happy birthday Stephanie! What a great tribute for your birthday. Dad reason but wonderful tribute. We have friends in the Houston area that were spared the flooding of their house but are working to clean up. We were planning to visit them during spring break. Hope we still can but if we do part of our time will be volunteering to help where they still need help. We dropped off supplier today at a church that is sending volunteers to help clean up. I want the SE Texas area to know that even though we are praying for them and will continue to support the rebuilding in any way we can.

The sun is shining literally and with the generosity of those who are donating to flood relief. Remember the generosity of strangers.

I was touched by your instagram post today and decided to stop by here to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY and I donated to the Red Cross. I hope for lives to get back to normal for those affected as soon as possible. I can’t imagine being in the same situation and not knowing where to turn for help.

Happy birthday amazing girl!
We donated through a new church, Wake Church that is right there in Houston. Their pastor is on the ground helping so we felt led to donate directly there.

Happy Birthday, sweet Stephanie. What a huge Texas size heart you have. This is a beautiful way to mark your 40th. I made a donation to JJ Watts’ fund raiser, and am now trying to decide which animal welfare organization to support. I can barely stand to warch the news coverage. It’s so overwhelming. But it’s also so inspiring to see so many people helping. I’m praying for the people of Houston and wish I could do more to help.
Mandy says
I finished reading this with tears in my eyes as well. I live in Yuma, AZ, far from Houston, but work with several coworkers from Texas who have friends and family who are affected. I coordinate the student ambassador program at our local college. Tomorrow is opening day of dove hunting (really big deal here) and my students will be spending the whole day cleaning doves (yuck) for donations. They will be donating 20% of what they earn to JJ Watt’s fundraIser. Although i am not a dove hunter, i will be including a personal donation along with our group’s raised funds. We are sending our love from Yuma to HousTon!
The prizes are all amazing and super generous, but I would be extra excited about prize #3! Happy birthday from one Thirty-one sister to another!!
Mandy says
I wish I could edit my comment! Pardon all the errors!

Happy Birthday, Stephanie. I donated to disaster relief for Houston. My nieces school is collecting packets to give out to the survivors. Have been thinking of you since I heard about the hurricane. Have traveled to Galvaston several times and love the whole Houston/South Texas area. Thanks so much for all you are doing.

I donated to the Houston SPCA so that people will know their beloved pets are being taken care of and don’t have to worry about them being fed or cared for. I know how much these pets will mean to people as they recover.

Happy birthday Stephanie! It’s so thoughtful of you to put this together. I’ve made purchases with percentages being donated toward hurricane relief efforts so far and just donated to the SPCA too. I think what JJ is doing is absolutely amazing! There’s a few more animal rescues I plan to donate to as well. My heart is just breaking for the displaced animals and the fear they must feel. It is wonderful and heart warming to see everyone coming together right now. Xo

Happy Birthday and thank you. You are doing a lovely thing. I’m going to be honest, I’m not american but I watch your news regularly. After Charlottesville, I stopped. I’d had enough…..seriously??!?……many sides???? The kindness and generosity that has erupted since Harvey has been refreshing and renewing. There are good people.

Stephanie, Happy Birthday! This is an amazing way to celebrate. This has sparked so many discussion with my kids over the past few days. We have been praying – its overwhelming to know what to pray for exactly so we have just been asking God to use His wisdom to know what is needed. Thanks for your willingness to put this together.

It is so hard to wrap my head around the devastation and memories the little kids will have. As a parent it would be so hard to keep up a “brave face” for my kids. I feel for you and I’m sending hugs and kisses for all your littles and you! Stephanie what a selfless act to step up help others and thank you to all the sponsors. Happy birthday! What a lovely way to celebrate. Harvey is bringing a lot of people out to help others and create community and I love that. Today I sent baby blankets from Amazon to an organization here in Austin that is taking them to Houston. Yesterday I gave to the Red Cross. I’m hoping to do a little bit every day.
Cynthia Baldwin says
Thank you for arranging for this fundraiser for my community! I live in Cypress, which is NW Houston, and we’ve appreciated all the kind thoughts and prayers. For me, personally, prayer has worked, and I feel blessed to be in the position to help others now.
Today, my daughter and I went to the home of one of our church members to help her clean out her flooded home. She is one of many who face a long recovery, and we are so grateful to you, to everyone, in spreading awareness of these needs and in donating so generously.
Truth: JJ Watt – bless him and the fund he’s started! – is a hometown hero. My husband and I have supported his fund, and my husband’s company will match our donation. But everyday this past week, I’ve also seen people be heroes by donating their time, buying some much-needed supplies, or just being there to comfort someone who is struggling.
You, Stephanie Howell, are one of my heroes too! May God bless you and your generous heart!
And DANG, if your friends aren’t the kindest people too – So much love! I love CZ, KP, and Ali. I’ve made purchases from Studio Calico and Steals.com too…and to see these people donating so generously makes me tear up. Thank you so much! #HoustonStrong

Happy Birthday, Stephanie! (you share this day with my daughter!) What a wonderful, giving way to celebrate your day! I have donated to JJ’s, Salvation Army and Houston Food Bank. I lived in Houston… my children were born there. My heart aches for this city. But throughout all the gut-wrenching images…there are those that show that wonderful, tough, caring Texas spirit! Prayers for all those that are affected…and to those caring people that are unselfishly responding to those in need.
God Bless Texas! (He always has…and He always will! <3)

OMG! I forgot to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY! You are so so kind to celebrate this way.
I should also thank you for pointing out another charity – the SPCA – which needs help in our Houston area. Thanks for the link! I’m also donating to them, and getting my husband’s company to match, because there have been so many animals displaced due to the flooding. The shelters are overflowing!
We adopted our own beloved dog Lucy from the SPCA, so I can’t believe we didn’t think to donate to them already. I’m encouraged by seeing the stories of these kind people at the shelters and on rescue boats (some coming from all over the USA) coming to help the animals. Hoping that these little guys will be reunited with loving families soon, or at least getting more assistance and cuddles.
THANK YOU again. Hope you’re getting all kinds of birthday presents!! <3

I donated while I shopped today, very glad that businesses are offering the opportunity to so easily help those in need.
I have friends and relatives in Texas, they are some of the strongest people that I know, as I am sure that those that have been affected will be.
I came across your blog via a link from Cathy Z. So very glad to have found it. I turned 40 a month and a half ago.

Happy Birthday Staphanie! My thoughts and prayers are with the people in TX. My cousin is a fire fighter there and a friend is in the Coast Guard. They are spending their days rescuing people. I’m so grateful for them and others like them for what they are doing.

August 31st was the 20th Anniversary of the passing of Princess Diana. One of her quotes that I love is, “Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.” ~ Diana, Princess of Wales. So, in her honor and in honor of your birthday and kind heart, I have donated to Samaritan’s Purse. This is a charity near and dear to me as I had raised funds for them previously through my daughters’ school many times. I send this donation with prayers for the people of Houston and surrounding areas… XOXO
Susan Lussier says
Just wanted to share another example of giving… Prior to my reading your post, my daughter, who is a young professional college graduate living in Baltimore, had contacted her Dad and me regarding something she wanted to do to help Houston. She collected donations from us, as well as several friends and relatives, and together we sent over 536 diapers and wipes to babies in Houston via Amazon and the TX Diaper Bank, a donation of over $200! I am so very proud of MY baby helping the babies of Houston!!! If this qualifies for a prize, of course, that will be shared as well… 😉

What s wonderful way to celebrate your birthday. We are thinking of all of those affected in a Texas up here in Washington state. My daughter works at a small fruit stand and they are donating a dollar for every milkshake they sell through Labor Day. Of course everyone is also adding to the pot. I also donated through Amazon. Thanks for giving us a little push to donate.

Happy Birthday Stephanie! What a wonderful way to celebrate your birthday.
I am heart broken watching the coverage on the news. I can’t imagine what all of these people are going through and thinking about.
I donated to JJ Watts fundraiser❤️

I can’t even imagine what the citizens of Houston and the neighboring areas are going through. I wish everyone effected peace, strength, and comfort. I donated to http://www.friends4life.org yesterday. I have 5 fuzzy face loves surrounding me right now, and I can’t imagine what I would do if we were separated or I couldn’t care for them and I want to help the citizens if Texas who I know are worried about their fur children. Much love from Oregon to the citizens of Houston. . I hope you had a wonderful birthday, thank you for your generosity.
Katie Burdett says
Thank you for encouraging us to give and happy birthday! We donated with United Way, Amazon and sent two cases of diapers. Houston, you are in my thoughts and prayers everyday! Texas Strong!
Kristan W. says
Happy Birthday to you! I donated to the JJWatts page per your recommendation. I cannot stop watching the devastation on TV and my heart breaks for all in the path of Harvey.
Lisa says
I am so touched by the utpouring of love here and in so very many places and ways. Happy Birthday to you and for inspiring more outpouring of love. We added on to our bill at Petco today, told it goes to Texas. We plan to donate directly to local organizations later as the need will be ongoing.
Traci Severson says
The devastation breaks my heart. We are praying for all those affected as well as for those who are helping in the aftermath. Happy birthday Steph!
I’d be cool with #2 or #10
Kim Thomas says
My heart breaks do the victims of this horror! I’ve been watching every day and wanting to do something to help. I wish that I could be there in person to help. I gave money to the Red Cross. I’m sure I’ll give again because the need is so great. Happy birthday, and god bless your sweet heart!
Andrea C says
Happy birthday! Have hope, be generous and loving to each other. Be the person your mom knew you could be!
#2 or 17 would be fabulous please.
Virginia Anderson says
I hope you had a wonderful birthday. What a wonderful way to reach out to your various contacts and help Houston. My heart breaks for all those effected. It is so widespread. Thank you for making it so easy to help. I have been wanting to help but not sure the best place. I gave to JJ’s fundraiser. I hope it helps. . I would love a book of the month subscription or the Happy Planner set looks so fun and Kelly Purkey or Studio Calico? You have such wonderful gifts. Thank you for offering them and for everyone who donated to fund your wonderful birthday fundraiser.
Stace says
Happy Birthday! It’s sweet of you to offer prizes as an incentive to donate. I’ve donated to multiple animal rescues which is my passion. Austin Pets Alive! is the primary place where I sent money. They have processed over 500 refugee dogs so far! I’ve also applied for a double company match so they will get three times what I give. 🙂 Most of the animal rescue groups working in TX have Amazon wish lists so you can send supplies also. And we have lots of Houston dogs coming to NJ so I will be spending this weekend doing rescue dog intake.
Kristi Marsh says
What has happened to those is Texas is devastating. I can’t wrap my head around what people are going through, feeling, experiencing and everything lost. As my kids go to school, I’m sadden that kids in Texas don’t have a school to go to, or a home to sleep in, school clothes to wear or even toys. Kids should be kids and I’m heart broken that right now they have devastation in their lives. I pray everyone is safe, and everyone is helped. I pray everyone gets back to where they were if not stronger soon with the help from our entire country.
Just a few weeks ago our country was being split up due to hate groups. Now we are strong working as a community and a whole nation to help. It’s inspiring and motivating seeing us join together. I just wish it wasn’t due to a tragedy. But non the less we are persisting and helping as a country.
I may not have much, but I certainly have more than what people of Texas due to lose. I donated to SPCA to help the lost, abandoned and hungry animals. I sent dog food down with a friend who is currently there helping, and I donated comforters, kids clothes and toddler beds to the Red Cross. It’s not much on my part, but if every single one of us gives what we can, miracles and hope will occur in those who lost lives to know they are loved, cared for and know things will get better for them.
Joyce says
To each and every one of you that are hurting, my prayers are with you. AFTER MUCH THOUGHT, I’VE DONATED TO THE TEXAS DIAPER BANK. I jusy wish i could be there myself to help Or that i could give more. Thank you for this stePhanie and happy birthday!!!
Lesley says
My heart is broken for Houston and those directly affected by the flood. I’m from Columbia, SC and we just experienced the 1000 year flood last October. It’s an experience and feeling that can’t truly be described. Thankful for all those giving. I know a truck is on it’s way from Columbia today. Happy Birthday Friend! I appreciate your heart!
Jessica Robertson says
Texas has a special place in my heart. My husband is from Amarillo and all of his family lives in Texas. His cousin recently received cancer treatment at Md Anderson and was there for some follow up appointments just days before the storm hit. To see the pictures of all of the damage and read about everything that has happened is heartbreaking. I donated to the Houston Food bank and am also running a drive to send down hygiene kits. The thirty one gifts mystery basket, get to work, or studio calico kits.
To those that are going through this- you are not alone. Many of us (including myself) are think of you and praying for your emotional and physical health. The important thing in all of this is that people stick together. Items can be replaced, but families and friends cannot. If you have lost people you love I pray for comfort in the hard days ahead.
Susan says
I have a friend with family living in the Houston area and have been keeping them and everyone affected in my thoughts and prayers. Please know that we are all thinking of you and will be there for you as you recover from this!
(Happy Birthday Steph and how amazing that you’re coordinating this! I donated to JJ”s efforts and would love either Cathy’s or Ali’s prize. )
Deirdre says
Happy Birthday, Stephanie! I’ve enjoyed your work for years. I have two aunts in their 80s, in Houston. They are both Catholic nuns and have been heartened by the aid of their neighbors. It is beautiful to see the good that comes out of the worst moments. I gave to JJ Watt’s project, that I hadn’t heard of prior to your post, and am not interested in any prize. Thank you!
Kelly Rell says
Happy Birthday! May all those affected my Harvey find peace and comfort with the help from strangers.
In the words of Max Ehrmann –
“But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.”
I have made a donation to Undies for Houston. Any of the prize items would be a great bonus.
Lorena Walker says
Happy Birthday Stephanie!! I love this! I was one of the lucky ones that had a house that remained untouched but I know people personally that had their houses flooded. I am amazed at how much the places set up for donations and shelters are not needing volunteers anymore and some asking for donations to be brought elsewhere because they are full of physical donations! Texas can get through this together-with love, support and kindness, which I have seen so much of in the last few days. God will provide-we just need to trust Him. Still praying!
Jeanette Ferguson says
What a showing of kindness! I gave yesterday to the Houston Pets Alive because the photos of animals left behind are breaking my heart. It was probably such a devastating choice for evacuees. I hope that all pets and owners are reunited in the future. My next donation will be to a food bank.
Norma says
First, belated Happy Birthday; yesterday was my birthday too. Your kind and generous spirit just brings tears to my eyes and fills my heart. The devastation in Houston and surrounding areas is just to great to comprehend. I have donated through UMCOR (The United Methodist Committee on Relief). Also,I have donated through the American Red Cross. The company I work for has established an account through them for our friends and colleagues who are in need; we have 5 offices there. The company will match the first $100,000. Thanks for all you do, Stephanie. I admire you for all you are doing. P.S. I’m also a big Mary Kay Andrews fan.
Ramona says
It is incredibly sad to see the devastation and the rescues! I just donated to Samaritans Purse. I hope all those affected can find some sense of normal soon. Also, Happy Birthday! What a kind heart you have!
Laura says
Happy Birthday! What a generous giveaway!!
My husband lived in Texas (Houston then San Antonio) for about 11 years as a child/teenager. He still has family who live near Houston – we’re in Ohio. My heart breaks for the people down there.
l plan on donating today! @redhairedladyplans
Lisa Stein says
So, it’s taken me a while to comment here. First, the easier part. I’ve donated to Undies for Everyone, because, LITERALLY, we all need underwear. And I know how much I love a fresh pair of undies, and there’s no way I can’t contribute underwear to Houston. (and now I’m crying, and about to go buy more). I’ve also donated to a fund where people were driving water to Houston. And no, I don’t mean by buying Budweiser products, although, that’s not a bad idea. A way for them to bottle even MORE water.
I am working on sending money to a friend in Austin, who will then go purchase supplies needed for an animal shelter there, and deliver for us. I thought that was more impactful than donating to them online, but that’s just because of the credit card fees associated with that, I hate fees, and wanted all of the money to get used for the furries.
And after I finish this comment I am going to go donate to your friend’s Amazon wish list. I’m loving the donations that get right to what people need, no overhead, no delays.
Now, the harder part.
Dear Houston,
You are strong. You are loved. And you will come out the other end of this feeling so wonderful about yourselves and your city, and your country. You will have seen how we, your fellow Americans, come together, pull together, work together, to make the wrongs right. You will feel the love of millions of people you will never meet. You will receive kindness from strangers, and some of them will turn into friends. Friends of the heart that you will have for the rest of your lives.
The devastation is all encompassing, but it absolutely can not reach your hearts, your souls. We will not let that happen. We will fight for Houston. We will provide every single thing you need to get back on your feet, get the kids to school, get a roof over your heads.
We are all Houston. We’ve got your backs.
Lisa

Happy birthday and thank you for the awareness you are doing through your post and blog! Let me first say I’m from the South Louisiana where last year at least 3 parishes where devastated by 32inches of rain. Over 90%of homes in my parish, Ascension, were flooded, including my daughter’s home (her family is still living in a FEMA trailer as the wait for the demolition of their home). We know far to well the emotional toll the people of Houston, Beaumont, and other towns and cities that were flooded in Texas! Our own Cajun Navy courageously volunteered to help rescue so many people in the last several days. Since this is still so fresh in our memories we still appreciate the help our Texas neighbors gave to us! We have organized collection of supplies to send to Texas and the response has been tremendous! I brought $185 worth of supplies yesterday! I also gave diapers to the Baton Rouge Jr League to distribute! Next Sunday, the BR Catholic Diocese will hold a special collection which I plan to donate too. Our local high school (I taught here for 5years) which was flooded and displaced all last year (the school has still not opened) is selling t-shirts. Donations will be sent to a selected school in Houston. I’m ordering my shirt as soon as I post this. Texas and Houston is very special to me. I was born in Pasadena, TX. After my son’s diving accident we spent 3months at TIRR for his therapy. I stayed with a friend in Cypress! I have so many friends living in this area! I’m not only donating to help Houston, I’m also offering prayers because the recovery will take months and for some years! The scars may never heal. #godblesstexas #houstonstrong
Rocio Silva says
Happy Birthday Stephanie, hope your day is a beautiful one in exchange for the beautiful message you have posted. I donated a few diapers to the little one @ texasdiaperbank who had an Amazon wish list. I was surprised to hear that the government aid doesn’t cover diapers. Anyways, thanks for the reminder for all of us to do what we can. Praying for all in Texas ❤️

I am not a big social media or tv person, so I have had to actively LOOK for news of what has been happening in the mighty US. But what I have seen astounds me – I don’t recall seeing this level of devastation before. I have made a small donation but wanted to say how generous your heart is to collaborate and coordinate something like this on your birthday. I hope your coming year is as amazing for you and yours. Arohanui from Down Under.

Oh, forgot. Whilst I wld be THRILLED with any of your thoughtful prizes, bc I’m not in the US something like Ali’s digital files wld throw me over the moon wi excitement!!! Much love

Happy Birthday Stephanie! I love this post! “Home” never leaves us.
Thanks to all those involved – I know many of them have also posted links to organizations as well.
Watching all of this unfold from the NE…the devastation is truly difficult to wrap my brain around. I believe they mentioned a trillion gallons of water on TV!!! Sending good wishes to all of the families impacted.
Thank you for providing a link to a specific family (Amazon list) – aside from United Way giving, this made the donation and its impact feel extra real.
Happy Birthday to you………..

I donated to the Red Cross just after the hurricane hit – and now that you mention JJ Watt’s charity, I’ll be donating to that as well. I am so sad about what is happening. My college classmate lost her house in Rockport. But I am so encouraged by the humanity I see – Mattress Mack, the Cajun Navy, and countless other examples. The silver lining in these disasters is that we get to see the best in people.
I’d love any physical scrapbook product or #10. But I’m really just touched that you’re doing this.
Jennifer says
Happy (belated) birthday Stephanie. Thank you for your kindness and setting this up. Reading through some of the comments already posted made me cry. My heart aches for the people who have suffered such losses. I’ve just made a donation to the Houston Diaper Bank. I’m keeping everyone in my thoughts and prayers.
It would be lovely to win #12 or 17 but honestly I’m just glad I can contribute. Thanks to everyone who’ve commented and contributed.
Brenda says
Happy Birthday Stephanie! My heart is breaking for everyone affected by Hurricane Harvey, my mom’s family are all in Texas and Oklahoma so this definitely hits close to my heart. I’m sending up prayers for everyone in Houston and south Texas!!
Thanks for doing this and giving so many options, I wasn’t sure where to give to do the most good so this list was helpful! I hope what I was able to do helps and am sure that everyone together will make a difference. God Bless you for doing this and to everyone affected.

Houston and other flood victims:
You are so heavy on our hearts and minds, and we as a country are praying and donating to help you get back on your feet. I’m so sorry for your loss and chaos, and hope that your futures include blessing upon blessing for all that you’ve got through.
Dawn M says
Happy 40th Stephanie! What a beautiful gift to give for your 40th…the gift of hope to those in Houston. I hope that you are doubly blessed for your efforts. I have donated to the Archdiocese of Galveston and Houston. The money has been designated to go to those in most need at this time. I will continue to pray for the people of Houston. With God, nothing is impossible!
Thank you for the generous prize packages! I am really admiring prize packages 2, 17, 24 and 25.
God bless you Stephanie and your family.
Kelly Ellenbecker says
Happy 40th birthday, Stephanie!
I should have known you’re from Texas with that big, generous, loving heart. ♡
I gave to JJ Watts site because he’s a Wisconsin boy and I know he’ll do the right thing with the donations that are pouring in.
My heart breaks for all those affected by this hurricane. I just can’t imagine the magnitude of devastation and what people are going through. I admire their strength and determination to help one another. Texas is in my prayers.
Becky Dunnell says
Happy birthday! Even in tragedy, you make me smile.
I have been praying for those affected by Hurricane Harvey — the flooding is such a horrible sight. Coming from St. Louis, where flooding (not to this height) happens, know that it does get better. Walls and floors can be replaced, but the unity that is showing will remain in place. Houston Strong!!
I donated to the Red Cross via text — so easy!
Jett says
Happy 40th! As a fellow Texan (DFW area), my heart has hurt to watch so many lose so much. We donated to the Red Cross and will continue to donate as we can. For those walking through this tragedy, know you are in our thoughts and prayers… and are not alone, and you will make it through this. Our hearts are with you.
Denise Gutshall says
Happy 40th Birthday Stefanie! What a wonderful gift of hope that you are giving to the people of Houston in such devastating times! Upon you recommendation I sent a donation to the JJ Watt’s foundation. Thank you for sharing many options for donation that I was new to me — my earlier donation went to the Red Cross because I am familiar with there work.
It is heartwarming to see so many people across the country reach out to help support the people of Texas, especially after such a turbulent year we have endured. You and the other people who have stepped up to help show the true spirit of the American people not the violence and chaos we seem to show the world. I thank you for that and will keep the Southeast Texans in my thoughts because this is just the beginning of their journey.
Emily Branch says
I am so grateful for your words and your heart Stephanie. I am proud to call you a friend and I am honored to donate in honor of you!
My heart goes out to everyone in Southeast Texas. I truly can’t even begin to understand what you are going through but my heart can’t stop thinking about all of you. I am praying for comfort, for strength, for healing, for wisdom and most of all for unity. While I hate for it to take something like this to see our country come together, I am proud to be an American and I wish I could do more. God bless all of you!!
Sarah says
I have to Austin pets alive. I can’t imagine being separated from my fur babies and I hope all the homeless before and after hurricane Harvey find their homes.
Donna Hendrick says
Happy Birthday! Thank you for giving us the many different opportunities for ways to donate. I have been wanting to do something but not knowing how. And now I have donated. Thank you. I hurt for the people that have seen such devastation in their towns. It is heartwarming to hear of people rallying together. I hope if I am called to help in any way that I will be able to go. I love helping others in need.
Thanks for the opportunity to win a prize 🙂 # 18 would be awesome!
Dianne says
I can’t keep from thinking about Houston, and how difficult it will be for the people as they try to put their lives back together. I gave to UMCOR, The United Methodist Committee on Relief. One of the things they do is ship cleaning kits to help with the flooding cleanup. Happy birthday, Stephanie, and my continuing prayers for Houston, and everyone who was affected by Hurricane Harvey.
Theresa Grdina says
Having lived through a devastating flood, I have seen first hand what water can do to a community. The people of Houston need to know that “This too shall pass”…..and they will come out of it stronger and more resilient than ever before. It may not feel like it right now, but it will happen. I have donated to The Samaritan’s Purse. I hope this little gift of giving helps make an impact on all of those effected by Harvey.
Amy Melniczenko says
I donated to the American Red Cross! I’m hoping to win the Get to Work Book goodies or the Book of the Month prize! Thank you so much for doing this for Houston!
spk says
I believe I’m too late for the (incredible) prize drawings, but I want you to know that the support for Houstonians and all the communities affected by Harvey reaches to Indiana. I work for a school district and our teachers, our students, and businesses in our community have mobilized to find meaningful ways to send help. I’ve supported the Red Cross, personally – based on the insight from a wise and dear friend in Houston right now. But as a family, we are supporting many other efforts and will keep up the prayers and the support for months to come. I read a powerful message yesterday about well-intentioned donations of things, and the burden those things can sometimes become. We are sending $$ now, but will also remember your former community as the Christmas holidays near. So many touchpoints and I, for one, am quite blessed to have never had to endure what so many are enduring today. Your incredible kindness and generosity will have an impact – and what a beautiful way to celebrate a birthday. Happy 40!
Joni Stineking says
Dear SE Texans and Those in Louisiana,
My hear aches and my prayers have been constant for you. It will take a long time to recover and life will never be the same. My little business isn’t huge, but I am matching 20% of sales this month and sending it to relief and recovery efforts. Many people I know are doing the same in my small artisan world. We have hearts big enough for the world and you are the center of our focus right now. Know as you go about these most difficult days you are not alone, not forgotten and never isolated from the love of your fellow Americans.
Joni
PS. Happy Bithday Kathy…should I be fortunate enough to be a chosen recipient of your generosity, I would really benefit from the stamp set. Thanks for the opportunity to be considered.

Happy Birthday!
However today too I cried, but determined to make a difference, every dollar helps Houston and today was my opportunity to give. I chose to give to Houston SPCA – having two pets myself, I cannot imagine the feelings of both the animals and owners. I am sending powerful statement of love and encouragement, to all the people and pets in Houston and area, You will make it through, and all across the world will be behind you and thinking of you.
prize:3,4,5, or 6 would be wonderful, or any prize – I would love to make more cards of encouragement
Kathy says
My family survived Katrina. This is an awful situation and my heart goes out to all those affected. I have made 3 donations so far. I am spreading the money around as I read about different organizations. Thank you Stephanie for promoting this cause. Your plea is heartfelt.
Theresa says
Happy Birthday Stephanie!! It’s my birthday too!!! We are amazing Thanksgiving – gotten babies…
I wanted to share an “act locally” place that is taking donations of plus-sized clothing especially. Many women in that part of the country are…generously endowed. I, for one, have lost a significant amount of weight lately (on purpose) and need to clean out my closet. I will be passing on my barely-worn plus sizes to my sisters in Texas, through:
Southside Skatepark
510 Iowa St
Houston, TX 77587
Attention: ICLEANEDOUTMYCLOSETFOR HOUSTON
Oh, and if selected, I favor the PRIZE TWO- Exclusive CZ Design stamp sets PLUS PDF ECopies of both of Cathy Zielske’s books
Thanks for doing this, and for all you do.
Wendy Bernhardt says
Heartbroken for you, Texas. May you recover quickly and better than ever. Just donated to JJ Watt’s relief fund.
Michelle Sabata says
Wow, look at all these replies! People are so good, and what a great way to celebrate your birthday. My heart has been breaking ever since Harvey first touched ground, it kills me to see people losing everything they own, their pets and their sense of security. I love seeing how neighbors have helped neighbors, though. I know that many people want to help and even though I’m broke and not working, even I could scrape up something, so I donated, and hustled my family and friends to donate as well. Because I’ve been worried about the pets, I donated to the Huston Humane Society. I wish I could foster some shelter animals to make more room for the evacuated pets, but I live in California. We need to take care of the animals, too. Thank you for the nudge and the giveaways, if you choose me I love #2, but thank you most of all to all of you wonderful humans who have donated to help our fellow man, I guess our world is a beautiful one after all. Love to you all!.
Quinna says
Happy Bithday! I’ve been wanting to donate ….. But didn’t know for sure who? Your post came at a perfect time! I purchased the Amazon gift cards. Thank you! Quinna
Lois John says
WOW!! What an unselfish way to celebrate your 40th!! Thanks for the prompting. I donated a few days ago through Catherine Pooler’s website. She is supporting one of the Houston charities and the SPCA.
The people of Houston are also an unselfish bunch helping their fellow citizens the way they are!! My thoughts are with them all, and I pray for them each night. I have never been tested to that degree and can’t imagine losing everything we have worked so hard for. God bless you all.
Oh, and if I am lucky enough to win, I would love Kelly Purkey’s contribution or #24. Please no planner gifts as I am not a planner.
Take care, Stephanie, and cherish each year you have as it beats the alternative!!
Angela Jorgenson says
I donated to the Red Cross, and my Girl Scout troop is collecting children’s books and supplies for a school in the area. We have teamed with a local Girl Scout leader who is connecting us with teachers in need.
Michelle says
Happy Birthday Stephanie. I just love how you took your special birthday and turned into a gift for those who so badly need it. We immediately donated to the Red Cross. But after reading about JJ Watt’s relief fund (here!, thank you) I donated to that as well. I watch the coverage and wish I could do more. Have a great week! If prizes are still open, I would love the Get to Work Book.
michelle says
Just had to jump back on here and say that I had an opportunity to make another donation this morning. I was at ALDI!!! and they asked as I payed if I wanted to donate to their Harvey fund. So easy to donate that way, but I thought of you as I know you are also an Aldi fan. 🙂
Denise C. says
Hi Stephanie. Thank you for coordinating this donation drive and amazing giveaway from this wonderful crafting community. I donated to two charities – Rescued Pet Movement and Avenue CDC, both recommended by a dear friend who currently lives in Houston (and who was spared most of the devastation and who is now volunteering all over the city trying to help those who weren’t spared).
If I happen to be randomly chosen, I’d love the Ali Edwards 12 months of digital (although I’d be thrilled with anything!).
Denise K Terry says
We lived in Houston when Ike came through and witnessed the destruction first hand, but that was nothing compared to what Houston is going through now! But if I learned anything during our time in Texas its that people there are tough and strong and resilient! So glad to do my little part to help them out!

i wish there was more I could do to help the people of Houston rebuikd. it is so encouraging to see the country come together to help and donate and care. I know Houston will come back better than ever. I gave to the JJ Watt fund plus lots of stores and restaurants we have been to this week are donating a portion of profits to Houston relief funds.
Tanya Napier says
Happy Birthday! I found your blog/ post through Cathy Z. (40 is a great age, by the way!)
Although my family has already donated, I spent some time looking at your suggestions for places to donate. I selected the Diaper Bank to donate feminine hygiene products- I can’t imagine being a woman in that situation and having to worry about taking care of that need as well.
I hope my donation gives some relief to some ladies in need!
Carolyn S says
I live in Houston proper and have spent the last week trying to get back home. Our house was thankfully spared but we have friends who were not as fortunate. I’m sure it is too late for contest entries but I am grateful that you put this list together as I have been so consumed in getting back to Houston that I had neglected to start donating. I also chose JJ’s selected charity. He’s a wonderful spokesperson for Houston and I trust money will go to where it is most needed. I was not so fortunate to be born here but my son was. I was also married here. We had to move away for a time for work but when retirement came and we could choose anywhere to live, Houston is where we came back to. I love my city and we will rebuild. Houston Strong
Christine H. says
I live in the NW part of Houston and did not personally experience any flooding. My heart aches for all the people here in Houston who have lost so much. I made a donation to the JJ Watt fundraiser and through Becky Higgins to the Humanitarian Services of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Thank you for the opportunity to win a prize. If chosen, I would like to donate my prize to a Houston resident who deserves it so much more than myself. It was very sweet of you to organize this. Hope you had a great birthday!
Jennifer Bishop says
I lived in Houston for a year, and Austin for 23. My heart resides there, and it has been broken by all of this destruction. I have made a large donation to the Texas Diaper Bank through my Amazon Prime account. Thank you for the information and links to help me do so. Happy Birthday! God Bless Texas!
Joyce says
Happy Birthday, what a thoughtful way to give back! I have donated to Convoy of Hope: https://www.convoyofhope.org
To all those affected by Harvey, please know that you are not alone. We are praying that you will receive all that you need and that you will come out even stronger.
Yuka Wortley says
Hope you had a great birthday, Stephanie. You are so thoughtful and caring to make an action like this.
My heart hurts when I think about people in Texas and I’m sending prayers to all those affected. It’s only a month after my hometown in Japan was hit by the floods and people are still needing various kinds of help. I believe it’s important not to forget this after things are settled and keep sending support to those affected. I’d be so grateful if I could get to use Ali Edwards Digital Kits to tell important stories around us. Thank you again for uniting people to support Texas.
Melanie says
I’m having a hard time NOT donating to every post I come across (including this one) so I am! JJ Watt, Houston Food Bank, Houston Diaper Bank, heck when I’m checking out at Safeway and they ask me to pitch in a few extra $’s….ok, yes! I came across this video today of a restaurant owner in Port Aransas who felt completely hopeless after Harvey hit. Then he said when he felt the overwhelming support, he felt hope again. That kind of thing is humanity at its best. We need more of that! So thank you for your post. This is good stuff in times of real devastation and tragedy. (And yes prizes! Prize #9 looks awesome 🙂
Melanie says
Also, happy 40th!!! (I turned 40 on September 2! A mere two days apart) I love how you talk about fully living up 40. Agreed.
Allison Waken says
Happy 40th Stephanie! What an incredibly beautiful way to celebrate!! Houston is such an incredible community and my prayers (and thoughts and donations) have been with them. Houston, I pray that you all come out with an amazing new sense of community and love for your city, communities, and neighbors. I worked with a friend from the area to start a list of places who are actively helping as well and just gave again to ubc.org a church who I know 100% of my donation is going to rebuilding lives and communities surrounding them.
Margaret McGarry says
Stephanie, happy, happy birthday to you! Turning 40 is freeing and galvanizing. Look what it’s done already! You. Are. A. Treasure.
I am so grateful to you for compiling this list. It, along with Brene Brown’s underwear post, is the most consolidated and useful list of ways to help. I am deeply grateful.
Houston and its surrounding areas have been at the forefront of my mind all week. The stories of rescue and human solidarity are not surprising, but they fill me with great hope for our nation. So much heartache; so much hope.
xoxo,
Margaret
PS: I chose to donate to J. J. Watt’s fundraiser.

I chose to give to the SPCA because I can only imagine the heartache of families who must choose their children’s wellbeing over their pets. It’s my hope that every animal cared for by the SPCA will feel loved and hopefully reunited or returned to their family.

It is hard to see the devastation happening across our nation. Harvey that hit Texas, fires in Montana, Oregon & Washington, Irma threatening…. I’m grateful for people like you who have the power to reach so many and to give your audience actual ways to help.
Our family has donated through the LDS Humanitarian fund, of which 100% goes to relief. Love those yellow-clad Helping Hands missionaries 🙂 (two are mine.)

And a big happy birthday to you!

Hi Stephanie! Playing catch up today as we get ready for school to start. First Happy belated Birthday to one of a kind! Genuinely kind and honest. My heart aches for anyone in the path of Hurricane Harvey…or any other Hurricane for that matter! I donated to Emily Ley, Becky Higgins, Red Cross and JJ Watts. I was so proud of my two oldest boys 19 and 20 when they told me they donated their own money to JJWatts fund.. ❤️ Thank you for everything you do!
Amy Williams says
I donated to Red Cross (I know I know, a friend send me a link and I did) and Houston Food Bank

Houston i know this will be a long road! I donated to JJ Watts fundraiser because i believe you can recover from this! Houston is strong and amazing!

I bought diapers and wipes to donate to a church in the affected area that’s part of my denomination. I have a baby boy and wanted to donate something that would help another family take care of their baby boy.
To those that have been directly affected: I’m sorry that you are going through this. Please remember that you are not alone. We will do everything we can to get you back on your feet. God bless you!

We gave to JJ’s fundraiser in honor of your birthday!! What a way to give back to others. Thank you for your guidance and direction in regards to donating. I trust you and your heart. Every time I turn the tv on, my heart aches for Houston, BUT I am completely overwhelmed by the love and support of those who are coming together to rebuild this community. Continued prayers for those affected.
I took your advice and recommendation MONTHS ago when I purchased the book “When God Made you.” It is a perfect book for our foster babies. If I am lucky to win a prize, I’d love the same book, (prize 26), which will be given to my soon to be brother & sister-n-law, who were approved to foster this past week. They brought home twins from the hospital yesterday.

Happy Birthday! And I love what you are doing to help raise funds. It was great to hear over the weekend that the city is mostly dry now, but so much recovery ahead. We’ve given to the Anglican Relief and Development Fund, which is working with the Anglican Diocese based in Houston to help folks there. Lots of great goodies and organizations helping you raise money which I love! SC, BOTM, 31 gifts are my faves.

I am so sorry that this flood has happened. My prayer is that people will get the help they need. It is going to be a long road of recovery, but filled with hope. A big portion of our town flooded 6 years ago and a lot of hard work and help were needed. People pulling together, helping each other and showing love through service is what is necessary. Last week I donated to the Diaper Bank, today I donated to Samaritan’s Purse and this week I will donate through our church. It is loading up 2 containers of needed items that will make their way down to Texas.
Happy Birthday!! You have done a wonderful thing by giving to others for your birthday. May you have a blessed year.

I am just getting around to commenting now.- what an awesome idea from you and on your birthday as well! You are amazing!!!
My heart hurts every time I see footage of the damage. I was especially haunted by the images of mothers with their children. I can’t imagine. Chris and I talked about how something like this puts every thing into perspective in our world. Little things don’t matter.
I am however encouraged by the compassion we have seen by the country as well as the resiliency of Texans! People putting aside differences and helping each other.
I have given multiple times to JJ’s fundraising efforts, the Red Cross and the Diaper Bank! My love and prayers to all those who are impacted- Texas Strong!

There just aren’t any words that I can think of to express how much my heart hurts for those that have lost so much because of this terrible storm. I cannot imagine what they are going through, but I pray that they get all the help they need and that the road to rebuilding and starting over is smooth and as easy as it can be. I pray that they find support and hope and love enough to get them through this without breaking them. I pray that they can find comfort in knowing that so many are cheering them on and doing what they can to assist. I’ve donated to JJ Watt’s foundation because I love that he is just getting it done and done in a big way to help Houston. He’s using his power for good and it’s just awesome to see what he’s been able to raise to help.
Thank you for the extra motivation to donate quickly and I hope your birthday was lovely. I’m a long-time fan of CZ (who has mad design skills) and would love to win her prize if I’m chosen.

I donated to the Houston SPCA (thank you for that link) in hopes that they can are able to take care of those animals that had to be left behind during the evacuations. I pray that those pets can be reunited with their families when things start to get better. I can’t imagine having to make that awful decision and I want to do what I can to help.
GTW, KP and SC are brands I love and it makes me happy to see that they have donated to help too.

I donated to Houston Pets Alive. SHORT TERM we can help, donate, share and pray. LONG TERM, we need to do everything in our power to combat climate change, both on our personal decisions and in the policies and politicians we vote for.

While my mind cannot even fathom what devastation has occurred in Texas, my heart knows how much people are needing help from others. I love what JJ Watt has done to assist people to help with his fundraiser which I just donated to. My prayers will continue for everyone affected both directly, and indirectly, because I know there will long lasting repercussions from this storm for a long time. Thank you Stephanie for your caring heart and happy birthday. The 40’s are the best ever! Your Happy Planner memory keeping has inspired me to get back at it, so that is my favorite!

My heart breaks at the devestation but is so encouraged and the strength and kindness shown by strangers. May recovery move quickly and moments of joy be shown to each of you who have suffered.
I donated to j.j. and would be thrilled with the gtwb or thirty one bundle

The aftermath of this tragedy is what initially worried me the most. How could so many people just pick themselves up and start again? I’m so exetremely hopeful. I’ve seen so many moving stories of people blessing others and putting others before themselves it’s truly heartwarming. I know a family who lives in Houston and lost everything. She is a hairdresser by trade and is offering free hair services to anyone who needs to feel some type of normalcy. I know it will take some time but I’m praying for swift restoration.

Happy Birthday, Stephanie! My heart hurts for the people of Texas. I can’t imagine the devastation and what it will take to help people sort through their homes and rebuild. I gave to Samaritan’s Purse as I love this organization and what it stands for. I know the money will be well spent and not lining a CEO’s pockets.

I hope your birthday was full of love!
We are still working thru all the loss here in Houston. I have coordinated with companies in Maryland and have gotten 4 semi trucks full of supplies brought down here to help people. We also have a truck full of supplies coming from Leavenworth, KS this weekend. We got a truck Sunday, yesterday and today with another on the way Friday.
I have organized to have all the supplies from 5 different semi’s to be at Kingwood Harley-Davidson THIS Friday and Saturday. Anyone in need is welcome to get whatever they’d like and anyone who is able to pick up items and deliver them out is encouraged to come out.
God laid this drive on my heart and am not going to stop until I don’t have any more supplies/donations to give.
This is a wonderful thing you are doing and it takes us all to take care of each other.
I am here to be the hands and feet of God here on Earth. <3 ~Alison

Thank you for organizing and sharing great ways to give… I have a friend who was flooded out, but her concern has been more for her students. Looking forward to finding ways to help her once it all gets sorted out and school begins again. I donated to JJ Watts fund, as I too believe his heart is in the right place. The Kelly Purkey Grab bag would be awesome as would the Happy Planner pack, but I’m grateful to make a small dent. Now… bracing for Irma in Florida.
One of my favorite sayings is by John Wesley..Do all the good you can.By all the means you can. In all the ways you can. In all the places you can. At all the times you can. To all the people you can. As long as ever you can.
Thank you Stephanie for giving! Blessings, Ann Anderson

What a great message to share on your birthday! My heart breaks for everyone effected by Harvey. I can’t even begin to imagine some of the situations that those effected will be facing over the next few years. Seeing this post and so many others on social media reminds me there is still sooooomuch good out there. I love seeing how these events bring people together – now if only, we didn’t need the negative impact of the hurricane to remind us!

Praying for all of TX as they recover – the images after are truly heartbreaking and devastating but, at the same time, the outpouring of love and community gives me so much hope for our future. God bless TX!

My heart hurts for the people of Houston and what they are going through. We have very close friends in the Houston area and it is just devastating to hear of the damage. Thank you, for dedicating your day to such an amazing cause. I have purchased through The link to Amazon wish list as well as putting 10 backpacks together loaded with school supplies for the kids in our friends neighborhood who have lost everything. Again, thank you for your generous heart.
