Hi y’all! Happy Monday!
Soooo I know that since I have been conspicuously absent from the blog I haven’t been updating y’all on my reading much. So the plan is to just kind of do overall favorites from the past few months today and then get back on track with posting monthly reading updates.
Sound good?
Good.
I’ve had lots of just fine three stars and a few mehhhh two stars and some nope one stars. If you want to read more about those, you can find my thoughts on Goodreads. Today I’m just talking about the books I LOVED.
Remember. To me, the measure of a good book is how much I think about the book and the characters within once I finish that final page. For example, I still think about Eleanor alll the time. Five stars. Bam.
Okay. Let’s get to it.
All Your Perfects by Colleen Hoover
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I absolutely loved this book. Adored it, was consumed by it, fell in love with the characters. Just like It Ends with Us explored the heavy issue of abuse , this one deals with the heartbreaking struggles of infertility. I read the last few pages of the book while smiling and crying. I just think Colleen Hoover is absolute magic.
Notes from a Public Typewriter by Michael Gustafson
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Oh my heart. I did NOT expect to cry during a book about a typewriter in a bookstore. But here I am with tears still in my eyes. What a precious jewel of a book.
An Absolutely Remarkable Thing– Hank Green
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I really loved this book. I mean…I shouldn’t have. Honestly. I’m not especially into science or coding or science fiction and I didn’t even know who Hank Green was before I read this book. 🙈 I remember feeling like this after reading Dark Matter (physics) and Ready Player One (gaming). Whether or not it was my typical kind of book, I was completely obsessed and consumed. I LOVE the commentary on tiers of fame and sudden internet fame especially. So so timely and smart. The ending left me a bit cold but it sets a sequel up neatly, so there’s that.
Young Jane Young by Gabrielle Kevin
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Y’all. I love this book! It’s smart, spunky, quirky, and character driven. And oh how I loved all of the characters! They are each written PERFECTLY. I really enjoyed this tale of a woman’s fall from grace (think Monica Lewinsky) and her comeback. It was just a gem of a book.
Tell Me More by Kelly Corrigan
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
So so so so good. Heart achingly good and magical and deeply sad and profoundly beautiful.
“Tell me more” I’ve said tell me more and that must be hard to my preteen daughters no less than a dozen times this week. It works.
“I know” made me sob. “No” made me nod my head and yell “amen”. “Yes” made me laugh and “I was wrong” broke my heart and convicted me.
“I love you” I read out loud to my husband and had to pause several times due to both tears and sobs.
“Onward” absolutely gutted and eviscerated me. I wept all the way through and could barely see the pages.
Ghosted by Rosie Walsh
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Oh i loved this book. I read it in a matter of hours. I don’t really care that everything ended up “tied in a pretty bow”. Eddie and Sarah were just wonderful together and my heart needed this book. 💕
Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I don’t want to give anything away so let me just say I’m absolutely in love with this book. I read it in just a few hours and had happy tears running down my face by the last page. Just a beautiful story. And the chemistry is unbelievable. SUPER STEAMY. Please let there be a sequel!
The Story of Arthur Truluv by Elizabeth Berg
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Up Lit at it’s best. Reminded me a LOT of Ove. I laughed and cried and absolutely fell in love with Arthur. You will too!
The Line That Held Us by David Joy
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
Dark and heavy and gritty and heartbreaking and stomach churning. But also beautiful and stunning and luminous. Joy’s writing is absolutely stunning and transformative. I couldn’t put it down. 4.5 Stars
That’s it!! Join me at the beginning of November for my October reading recap. I’ll be sharing children’s books too!
