I’m asked quite often for book recommendations. My answer varies based on the day or mood I’m in. But I have quite a long list of standby favorites that I recommend, no matter what.
No rhyme or reason, no alphabetization, no genre sorting, no sorting at all. Not all of these received 5 stars from me, but all of these have stuck with me. And that’s the mark of a “favorite”, if you ask me!
I reserve the right to add books and delete titles at my discretion, ha!
Soooo here we go! Enjoy. ♡

Great list. So many good reads on it. I’ve found such diverse & wonderful stories from following you.
Tvan says
Super list! I would have to add “The Poison Wood Bible” by Barbara Kingsolver which may be even better in its audio book form.
Allison says
What a great list! A couple of yours are also on my all-time favorites as well…put there because you recommended them. I’ll never stop recommending The Heart’s Invisible Furies. Thanks for sharing this!
Steph R says
Thank you for sharing! Funny I was going to scroll through the blog to find some new authors!
Erin R says
Great list. A handful that I’ve already read (at your recommendation). Curious as to whether you would only recommend the audio version of Addie LaRue or if that is just the only one that you read personally? I just started the paper copy last night.
Stephanie Howell says
It’s just the way I listened to it. Julia Whelan is my all time favorite narrator and her narration on this is PHENOMENAL.
Ruth says
Julia Whelan’s My Oxford Year is worth reading 🙂
Stephanie Howell says
Not one of my faves but definitely cute !
Erin R says
Thanks!!!
Lindsay Darcy says
I have either read or added a lot of these to my TBR list just because you say so! Sometimes I don’t even read what they are about because I know if you say they are good, it doesn’t matter what they are about! I love all of your recommendations.
Stephanie Howell says
I enjoyed daisy but for some reason it’s not one I’m prone to recommend. I chose Evelyn for this list but have enjoyed all Tjr books.
CarrieH says
Wow! Thanks for this list. I’ve read many of these books after seeing them on the Bloom FB page and have recently been scrolling for new titles. I try not to buy books until I’ve read what I have, usually 2-3 in my TBR pile. I know I’ll be referring to this list throughout the year, so thank you for taking the time to put it together.
Sarah Savage says
happy to see ‘how to walk away’ on your list! I loved this book and absolutely adore Katherine Center’s writing style. I got ‘What You Wish For’ for Christmas and can’t wait to read it 🙂 Thanks for doing this! xoxo
Valerie Spence says
Books I’ve read that you recommended –
The Girl with the Louding Voice
A Man Called Ove
The Nightingale
Eleanor Oliphant
Tell Me More
Bossypants (didn’t enjoy that so much)
The top 3 books I have only read this year).
On my TBR pile –
All the Light we Cannot See
The Great Alone
Something Like Happy
My 2 recommendations to you would be –
Away with the Penguins by Hazel Prior. I really think this would be right up your street. I read A Man Called Ove on the back of it as it was said to be similar. I loved both.
Also, Lucinda Riley’s Seven Sisters series. Love!
Peggy says
Thank you! I love that there are so many series on the list. Love those.
Hena Tayeb says
