No, this post isn’t about A Streetcar Named Desire. Don’t worry. Hahaha.
I just wanted to tell you a little story about something that happened yesterday.
I took the girls to HEB for our weekly grocery trip.
As we were walking up to the store, we heard a commotion,
and when I looked over I realized an elderly lady (perhaps she was in her mid to late 80’s)
had fallen over one of those concrete parking curbs.
She was laying at an awkard angle and people were starting to gather,
not sure what to do.
Someone had called an ambulance, but no one was really getting close to her.
Now, let me interject to tell you that I’ve been thinking of how as Christians, we lead by example.
I’ve been wanting Harper to learn about helping others in need, volunteering, etc.
We are also working on being gentle and kind.
So Harper, Sadie and I went to the car and got an umbrella.
We sat on the ground and covered her with the umbrella (it was very hot on that concrete).
We got some baby wipes out of my diaper bag and we gently patted the blood on her hands and face.
But mostly, we talked to her.
Her name was Louise and she was very confused and scared.
She was all alone and wanted me to call her pastor, so I did.
We waited with her until the ambulance came,
and then we went about our day.
But we talked about her all day.
And Harper learned a lesson from that, oh yes she did.
Strangers are amazing. They hold the door for us, pick something up when we drop it,
(they must feel sorry for a frazzled mommy with 2 babies)
They say thank you to Jimmy when he is in uniform, They say thank you to me.
Strangers have the ability to change the course of anyone’s day.
So why not pay it forward??
That’s my rambling for the day….
But hopefully it made sense.
Here is my to do list while J is gone:
Among other things, I want to lose weight, plant something with the girls, find a church, find somewhere to volunteer with the girls, get harper in a music class….you get the picture.
It will make me feel better the next 15 months to have goals.
And this is an album I started a while back,
but haven’t touched since. I hope to soon.
It’s going to be full of words of wisdom for the girlies.
Have a beautiful day… and do something kind, won’t you?
I’m thinking we might go visit Louise at the hospital…
