Happy Wednesday y’all!
Today I’m blogging about planners. I answer most basic planner questions HERE , HERE, and HERE, although I do need to do a revised list.
I see so much negative talk about pretty planners on social media. And I used to contribute to it. I’d judge photos and even leave snarky comments. Yikes. Hard to admit, but true. Why? I have no idea. I just remember feeling so judgy about it.
Why do you NEED so many planners? (I used to be guilty of this one and it makes me cringe- so sorry for saying this in a snarky way on one of our your photos years ago, Christy Tomlinson). Um, because I feel like it? They bring me joy and I trade the covers out like handbags? Shrug.
Why do grown women need stickers in their planners? What is this 7th grade? Again…because I feel like it. No one sees it but me and who the heck cares? It’s not like I’m sitting in a board meeting on Wall Street. It’s therapeutic to me.
What is it with this planner craze anyway? Here’s the gist of it. I enjoy decorating my planner because it’s my only creative outlet right now, and it combines my two favorite things…list making and scrapbooking. It’s a fine line between pretty and functional, though. And one I’m still learning how to balance!
Decorating your planner isn’t that different from a notebook or a scrapbook page. DO WHATEVER MAKES YOU HAPPY.
Stamps?
Stickers?
Doodling?
WHY THE HELL NOT? Go for it!
If you don’t know where to start, buy yourself a Happy Planner and grab a planner kit or TN kit! Or go on Instagram and search the different planner hashtags. There is so much inspiration out there.
If you are a simple list + highlighter girl, rock those highlighters. Or, cover every freaking inch of the page in stickers. WHO CARES? TREAT YO SELF. Play! Have fun!
If you feel like making a page that looks like Mean Girls exploded all over it, knock yourself out. See a theme here?
You’ll never know what you do or don’t like unless you try.
And if you think paper planners are stupid and you put everything in your phone then AWESOME. You do you, boo.
So what do you think? Would you ever decorate your planner?
xoxo

This basically wraps it up in a bow … short bursts of creative time … and lists on lists on lists … perfect combo!

I love my planner-I am not a huge decorator but I haul it around with me all day and write so many things in it. It makes me feel somewhat organized and only way to keep up with my family’s busy schedule. I have ogled some of your lovely ones on Instagram and here. One day I might be a bit more crazy with mine. Thank you for sharing these 🙂 Can you tell me what the planner is that has the dinner area?

I just bought one and have never used a planner before! They are so pretty, it’s hard to pick, so I can see wanting more than one. I will probably use mine more of a “diary” type planner, and write what we did that day (if it’s interesting). I love how cute they look when decorated!

When I worked in corporate America many years ago, I loved my Franklin Day planner for keeping me organized, look professional, etc. I have no need for a paper planner now, but I understand its important role. When my college-aged daughters wanted the expensive Lilly Pulitzer planners, I said why not. If they are using it everyday, they need a planner that makes them happy to see and use. They now are trying different planner systems and they are expensive, but again, I support their decisions. “You do you”. I love that.

You are RIGHT ON SISTER!! Why question what someone else is doing! You do yours, I’ll do mine! If it makes me happy, I’m going to do it! Thanks for the sanity check! LOL

Since I prefer to keep work at work and home/personal stuff at home, I’m not currently doing a traditional planner. However, I’ve got a pretty **Memory ** Planner that I’m hoping to use for everyday memory-keeping in 2018. I’ve got lots of stickers and 6×6 paper pads and washi on hand. Hoping to have time to play this weekend — plan to try to get all of January done. ::fingers crossed::

I like the look of decorated planners, but I find them impractical for my personal needs. I finally found a system that works for me, which involves just highlighters and pens, with the occasional sticker or line of washi tape.
I still try to make it look nice, though. Blocking out sections of time with a highlighter requires a rule so lines are straight and even. There’s no reason “functional” has to be “boring and bland.”

Just recently bought a happy planner to keep track of things at work. Haven’t had time to do much decorating but love it. Thanks for the inspiration.

I do sit in meetings on Wall Street and I have a decorated planner. I told my boss I was bringing the old school planner back this year. I have all my meetings in it, to do lists, daily goals, etc. I keep track of workouts, dinner, errands, etc. And it has stickers and motivational quotes in it. And washi tape and stamps. And a charm with flowers hanging off of it. It inspired my male boss to revive his old school Franklin Covey planner. lol But mine is prettier! 🙂
