hey y’all! so i know i’ve been pretty absent lately…
life’s just really full and crazy right now. in a great way. 🙂
lots of company and getting ready for italy. i cannot BELIEVE that june is our last month in this house. i’m equal parts terrified and exhilarated.
i was sitting here drinking my coffee and thinking about how i really wanted to blog. but I couldn’t figure out what to blog about.
looking back through my photos from the past few months, i realized i haven’t talked much about our favorite places in newport.
so that’s what i’m talking about today. is anyone interested in reading this? i have no idea. HA! but i thought it might be fun.
here are some of our favorite places to visit in and around newport.
1. The Cliff Walk – we almost always take visitors here. the ocean, 40 steps, walking by the most gorgeous houses in newport…you just can’t beat it.
2. Ocean Drive.– breathtakingly beautiful. the beaches are lovely, the homes are amazing. it never gets old.
3.Easton’s Beach- ride the carousel, drink some del’s.
4. Anthony’s– best seafood in town. hands down. i have had their lobster rolls 2918302840238 and i NEVER get tired of them. so so SO good.
5. Bowen’s Wharf– sit and watch the boats, shop in the super cute boutiques, and eat at 22 bowen’s
6. Purgatory Chasm– the best place to have a picnic.
7.Newport Creamery- i don’t even want to begin to try to count the number of Awful Awfuls we’ve consumed this past year.
8.Fort Wetherill– can’t even put this place into words. creepy, beautiful, decayed, amazing.
9. Sachuest Point Wildlife Refuge– peaceful and beautiful.
10. Favorite Restaurants
Best Seafood/Best Chowder- Anthony’s (see above)
Best Bakery- The French Confection

Oh my gosh, my sister and I loved the nachos at Brick Alley Pub! I lived in Newport when I was in high school and my dad was stationed there. Lovely town. My sister got married there and wants to live there permanently one day. Such a lovely area. 🙂

Wow! What a great visual tour of Newport and brought back a flood of memories for me. Our first duty station was at Newport, and we lived right off First Beach! Loved Newport Cremery, do they still have the cow cream dispensers? We were regulars at Brick Alley Pub too! If you like fried clams, you have to hit Flo’s before you leave!
Jonnelle says
Wow, now I need to put Newport on my list of places to visit!
What’s an Aweful Aweful? (I’m sure it’s super rich and yummy!)

Thanks so much for sharing! I grew up on the western shore of Lake Michigan and just love everything about being near water. Your pictures really give such a wonderful taste of all the beauty and awesome power of those places! I’m so glad you decided to post this!

I live up the road in Cumberland and have honestly never done any of these things, except visiting a few of the mansions back in High School (I’m originally from Mass). Every summer I tell myself I am going to explore the coast, and now I have a list of places to go. Thank you for the beautiful visual tour of Newport. Did you get to a Waterfire in Prividence last summer/fall? If not you must go before you leave. I think they start in June.

Thank you for sharing. Of course we want a list of your favorites. I would love to hear about how you will be getting organized for your move. Also I just received my third stich fix and it had a must have necklace and my favorite top ever!! Thanks for getting me hooked on them.

What beautiful photos. You live in such a lovely spot. And I think that Purgatory Chasm has to be one of the best place names ever.

Wonderful post. We have many of the same favorite places from when we lived in Newport when my dh was in stationed there in the Navy way back from 1991-1995 of course some of your favs weren’t there then — mainly some of the food items, but we loved the Cliff Walk too and Ocean Drive. We lived there pre-kids and loved to ride out bikes from our cute little apartment on Broadway all the way around the Ocean Drive through Newport and back. Now we live 25 miles away again in Barrington, RI — my dh works as a civilian Prof. at the war college. He’s in Newport every day, but I hardly ever get there. We’ll be there on Monday for the Memorial Day celebrations as dh is one of the speakers. I can’t wait. Maybe we’ll see you there!! Enjoy the rest of your time in Newport — it is such a special place.

Thank you for sharing your photos and memories. You captured so many of my Newport favorites in the post. My sister (hi, Bridget N!) sent me your link several months ago when she saw that you were blogging about Newport. You’re right. That beautiful place never gets old. Here’s to one day returning permanently to the City by the Sea…
Stacey Lynn says
The Cliff Walk was destroyed by a hurricane when I was in college. It’s nice to see that they rebuilt it because there was some talk of not doing so.

Goodness! My heart is still in New England even though we left a lonnnggg time ago. I would go back… but then there is the snow…… But who knows. I mean you know all about that! So glad you had a good year. Bueno.

My brother lives in Paris and I live in NM, and when we both are “home” in RI, we do late night awful awfuls at the Newport Creamery. We’ve been drinking them since childhood. 🙂

Perfect timing, Stephanie! My parents live in southeastern Connecticut. They are taking the kids for a few days in June so we can have time to ourselves. We were going to do three nights in Boston, but I think we may skip one of those and go to Newport instead. My mom had already recommended that, but having a list of your personal favorites is really helpful. Thanks!

My family was able to travel up the coast a couple of summer’s ago when we were temporarily assigned to the DC area. Out of the entire vacation, we all agreed that Newport and the surrounding area was our favorite 3 days. Beautiful.
