Exploring RI- Ocean Drive

i want to share my favorite part of newport with you…ocean drive/10 mile drive.

the homes are amazing and the view is jaw dropping. what’s not to love?

this was our second time to visit. the first time was pretty cool, there were some massive storm clouds rolling in. check out h’s face and those muddy legs. bahahaha!

this time it was overcast again but we still really wanted to visit.

check out the shacks we saw on the way to the beach. okay, but seriously…the amount of money in newport is mind blowing.

j took cate out to see the water. do you see all of those sailboats on the horizon? so beautiful.

the big girls brought ziplocs so they could explore and collect treasures. they found lots of shells and seaweed and snails.

the babies LOVED being there. they were so interested in everything. so curious.

the look on cate’s face (to the right) makes me laugh so hard. can you tell how excited they were?

we picked up rocks and watched the crabs scurry into the water. the girls were fascinated. i was a little bit creeped out. i don’t like things that scurry. shudder.

when i was bending over looking at one, jimmy goosed me and i swear to all that is holy that i have NEVER screamed that loud. i almost peed my pants. it goes without saying that he thought this was highly entertaining.

and as we were leaving, we saw this. seriously? i don’t even know what to say.

all i could think of was gob bluth going to the banana stand. please tell me that someone gets this reference?!?!?

  11. oh my, what an entertaining post! I get the reference too as did my husband when i showed him the pic. Did you ever find out what they were doing? Self guided tour perhaps? You have so many hilarious moments to scrap, great memories and THOSE FACES…how do you stand it? Even the fighting/crying ones are great for remembering. I thought i would never get through the small years, but now the kids are teens and i am so glad i have photos of our family times – good and bad.

  14. I’m originally from Massachusetts and LOVE being in New England in the winter! Make sure while you are there you and Jimmy take a tour of the mansions in Newport during Christmas time. Its kind of romantic, all the homes are decorated for Christmas and have beautiful wreaths, Christmas trees, poinsettias and other old fashioned sorta Christmas stuff. They are beautiful that time of year

  19. My kids loooved collecting snails! ….and I don’t get the Gob reference but I see you saw a segway club outing LOL….so fun seeing Newport through your families eyes and I’m so glad you are enjoying it!

Love windy days at the beach – the photos are fantastic – I could hear shrieks of joy and the waves, and you keeping your brood in check. Great stuff. I don’t get the Gob reference (plus, I am embarrassed to admit, don’t know what being ‘goosed’ is – is it a wedgie? lol. Sorry. Australian)

  22. Wow it looks beautiful there, love the look of RI (the houses look amazing too) wish it was closer to visit and explore(as we’re also in Australia). The girls & Jimmy looked like they had a great time.

  24. Looks like fun, I loveeeee Newport! Such a good time, only 45 min away– i should really go more often! If you ladies are looking for fun things to do around the area might I suggest the Mystic Aquarium? Not too far from you and they have lots of fun animals, there’s also a huge dinosaur park in CT about an hour away 🙂 Ya know, in case 4 kids doesn’t keep you busy enough haha.
    And yes, that last picture looks like a whole bunch of banana grabbers, C’MON! ;P

  34. Honestly, that just looks like a typical day at a Northern California beach. Windy and not warm at all! And I am so with you on scurrying creatures. Scurrying = creepy.

  37. Not sure if you already had an answer, but the two-wheel vehicles are “segways”. We have some of them, here, in Montréal (Canada). 😉
